350 Head gaskets

I think the Fel Pro head gaskets are about .040 compressed thickness? I saw a thread about Cometic gaskets that are .060 compressed thickness? ( I didn't want to highjack his for sale thread) Anyway what are the gaskets that are thinner and are they still available?? I am not rebuilding my 71 350 now but wouldn't mind having some extra thin gaskets. With my fel pros I think I only have about 8/1 compression. Thanks Greg.

Greg i think you get get the cometic in different thickness'.The ones i used on my 455 were .036 . I seen that ad and think its a great price, but if im correct you would lose quite a bit of compression versus the original shim gaskets. It would take about .040 of head and block milling just to get back to the original cr.with all other things being equal. I could be wrong maybe the pros will chime in for clarification

Cometics come in as thin as .027 so your cc loss would be minimal.

This one easy solution, cut .030 off the head and slap the replacement .042" thick gasket on there...

Mark Smith (Smitty, smitty275, MJ Proformance) isn't returning Facebook messages but that's the last guy I knew who was making thin head gaskets for Olds. I bought a set of .017" thick 403 ones from him back in 2017 for $135 shipped I think.

Cool, looks like they are still available. About $90. each. Thanks!
