330 build up

I have a 67 Cutlass Holiday with a 330 I purchased a few months ago. Not sure if the intake is aftermarket all I know is it says Olds 350 Performer on it and I replaced the carb with a Holley. Besides that, I took the mufflers off and thats it. (I like how it sounds) What is the best bang for the buck as far as adding some power to this motor. (Some vendor sites would help me out alot too) I'm not worried about doing the work since I own an auto repair shop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -Chris

It also says "Edelbrock" on it, which should tell you that it's not factory...

The best performance bang for the buck will be to replace the two speed Jetaway trans (1.76:1 first gear) with a TH350 (2.52:1 first gear). The improvement off the line will amaze you.

I figured the same thing, except that when I removed the intake to replace the lifters, I did not see "Edelbrock" stamped anywhere on it. It struck me as odd, unless its right in front of me and I somehow missed it. Thank you for the advice on the TH350. I suspected that the gearing has been holding it back with this 2 speed Jetaway in it. Its not fast off the line AT ALL. I appreciate the input. -Chris

How does the engine run overall? The Hi-comp 330 is factory rated at 320 hp, give or take. In itself a very good engine. The Jetaway has a switch pitch torque converter or variable vane. If it's not functioning properly it is a bigger dog than normal. A good set of gears and a T350 swap (as Joe said) would also help you out.

Egge used to carry pistons and the block will accept up to .060 over. The best part of the 330 is the crank. Cams and other performance parts are easy to come by for the 330.

Headers for a SBO are limited and very expensive for your application. There is a set available in the parts section right now.

Maybe your switch pitch isn't switching, that helps the Jetaway getaway...

Final drive gears make a huge difference also. You probably have 2.56 or 3.08 gears. If fun is more important than economy you might try something in the mid to high threes.. 3.42:1, 3.73:1, etc.
