330 4v Harmonic Balancer vs. early 400/425
330 4v Harmonic Balancer vs. early 400/425
Hi all,
In my search for a replacement I came across a source for a 425 balancer, it appears to be the same as my 330 one. Does anyone know if they will interchange or issues using one from a 425 on a 330?

Hi again,
Well found out that they are not the same, 330 rusty 425 Black one in the pictures.
The 425 has a larger bob weight (about double the size) and is maybe a 1/16" larger outside diameter

OK, I didn't reply because I wasn't sure. But have dismantled several 330 and 425 engines and the dampers look the same. Some early 330's didn't have dampers, just the small balancer. For some reason I'm having trouble viewing photos today but I believe what you have pictured is one 330/425 damper (notches in it) and one 350/455 balancer with no notches. John
Hi,
They both have notches, the bob weights are different as well as the outside diameter, the guy I got it from says there were a few different 425 and 330 dampers. Guess he matched another one he had and is sending it out so will see.
I have heard the 330 2v's were different compared to the 4v's, maybe there was also different balancers depending on car as mine is from a Cutlass, maybe a Jetstar had a heavier one which makes some sense.
Will know on Wednesday when the next one arrives

Hi Jim
Well, when I logged in this time I was able to view the photos. I'll have to look more closely at what I've got. I thought everything I've had looked like the bottom one, on the 330, 400 and 425. But I may be mistaken. This might be another good topic to post pictures of the various ones that were used and what engines they were used on. John

OK, this is odd. I've checked a 1966 & 67 425 Toro motors and they both have the short weight. Then I checked a 1967 400 and it has a short one. I tried to check a 1964 330 4bbl engine and it felt like it was the long one... so I'll have to try and get a better measurement on the 1964 engines. I've got a second 1964 and a 1965 330's with dampers on them that I can check too.
