307 in a 84 cutlass

i recently dropped in a 307 in a 84 cutlass that had a 3.8l. everything is good but i cannot get the tranny kickdown cable to hook up. i put a carter carb on the factory intake with a aftermarket throttle bracket. the kick down just won't reach. the motor came out of a 90 caddy, so i didn't use the factory carb. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it doesn't reach because of the interchange you made, then fabricate a new cable that does.

Even If I Put A Longer Cable On It Still Would Not Seat In The Bracket.

OK, the 307 was a factory option in the 84 Cutlass, so if you have a 200-4R with the correct 307 throttle valve cable (it isn't just a kickdown cable on that trans) and the original 307 intake, then clearly the problem is the aftermaket parts. Get a factory 307 cable bracket for starters. Next, is the problem the attachement point on the carb? Compare the linkage arm on the Qjet with the one on the Carter. If the throttle valve cable attach points aren't in the same place, that's your problem. Also, be aware that the throttle valve cable needs to be adjusted correctly for the trans to work. The end of the cable that goes into the bracket has a spring-loaded adjuster. If you depress the plate and pull back on the cable, it will move all the way back towards the firewall. Now depress the throttle to the floor and the cable will self-adjust to the correct point.

It Has A 350 Tranny In It. That Is What Was Behind The Stock 3.8l.
