#2 heads push rod holes

on a set of number 2 heads being put on a 350 which side gets opened up, the exhaust side or intake side of the push rods holes and how much for rod clearance? am wanting to work the heads before tearing down the 350 and sending them to the machine shop. I know that one is 39 degree and the other is 45 degree lifter bank angle, was hoping someone has done this and can remember it. thank you so much...jim

It has been a reeeely long time since I have done this, but if memory serves me right, the real problem is interference at the bottom (lowest part) of the pushrod hole.
If memory serves me right you will have to clearance the intake side bottom of hole, if you are placing a 45 degree head on a 39 degree block.
DOUBLE CHECK everything, before you grind, and BEFORE you assemble the heads.
If you can clear a paper clip throughout a complete rotation, all the way around the pushrod (top and bottom), you will be fine.

I doubt you will get 9.5. What measurements have you taken to come up with that number? You will need the distance the piston sits down in the bore at TDC, you will need the exact cc of the heads (you may be suprised to find you dont have 62), the size of the dish in the piston, and the thickness of the new gasket you are using, over bore etc...

using this calculator I get closer to 9:1

Even at 9.0:1, it will run better than 8.0:1.
Glad I could help a fellow 65 post owner.

Oh no doubt. but he has more information as to how to get the 9.5 he's looking for, he will know where to make adjustments, ie.. mill the heads, different pistons... etc...
