1971 Cutlass 350 Mufflers

I once had a Mark VII where I drilled a 1/4" hole at the bottom rear of each muffler to try & avoid premature rusting. It seemed to work OK. A lot of water dripped out before it worked its way to the tail pipe. I'm wondering if such an idea would work w/ the cutlass, since the chrome exhaust extensions (not factory) get residue on the bottom from water & carbon blowing out. Does this sound totally wrong, or would it matter? The car is loud enough, so it wouldn't increase sound. Just wondering.

Probably work but 1/4" may be larger than needed. I'd try 1/8 - 3/16.

The car has Flowmaster mufflers, w/ no holes. I'll try 1/8". Thank You, Al
