1969 Cutlass S, air cleaner color

I will be converting the factory 2 barrel to 4 barrel carburetor. I was wondering is the original 4 barrel air cleaner red or black? I have seen them in both colors. Thanks

I thought the 2 bbl was black and the 4 bbl was red/orange. But I'm going off weak memory here.

I’m not sure for your car specifically but some cars used red for high compression motors and black for low compression. I have a 455 from a 68 Delta 88. It’s the high compression 2bbl motor and it has a red air cleaner.

That is my engine compartment several years back. 4bbl 310hp High Compression 350. Numbers matching and correct.

And here below, a fellow member was selling one a few years back.

In case anyone needs any red/orange paint, this mix formula was lifted from another thread.
