1966 330 build questions
Looking at building the motor in my 1966 cutlass holiday hardtop coupe, came w/ a 330. So far, a friend of mine had a holley street dominator intake for me, so im looking at a holley brawler 650 mech/secondaries to match. will likely just do some manner of port and polish head work for now, although would entertain other possibilities later. Figuring on stock crank, High comp 330 pistons off of supercarsunlimited, and other goodies i am currently forgetting. However, this brings me to the big question. one that has been asked a million times im sure, but i will make it a million and one. This motor is a 66, and every single website i view any kind of cam, it says 67 and up. I know issues are present w/ bank angle between 66-67. where do i shop for the proper cam package. Or can a fella just get a cam package for the 67 and make it work??? at a loss here. you guys are experts, i am what is known as a fool, so fill my brain full of 330 knowledge if ya got the time. thanks in advance!

The cam package for a 67 will most likely be for a 39 deg cam engine. As far as I know, with my limited knowledge, all 66 engines were 45 degree engines. Do a search on this site. There are threads here that show how to determine which is which.

Correct info???
This table states that my motor has the 39 degree bank angle, seeing as my block is cast with 394417. I do not want to buy a cam and find this info to be inaccurate, anybody with some real good knowledge of these want to let me know??

Crane has a good chart in their catalog and it shows all 1966 330's to be 45 degree ?? Lots of conflicting information
If you aren't sure and you will have the entire engine apart anyway it is very simple to actually measure the angle and be 100% certain. That's what I did on the 425 I was working on.

We've shown in the past that this table isn't 100% accurate. Pull the intake and verify the LBA before buying a cam.

Regarding pistons; since you are looking at high comp 330 pistons on the Supercars website, consider getting the standard bore '65-'67 400 pistons. At 4.00" bore, that is almost the same as a .060" over 330 piston, the comp. distance is identical, wrist pin is the same, weight is same as a 330 piston and there is no dish so you gain a little more actual compression. That will help make up for the thicker head gasket you have to use today. I would still have the heads milled about .025" as well.
