Performance Section

Just like we have "General" and "Repair and Restoration"...what if we had a "Performance and Racing" section where we could ask more specific questions regarding aftermarket and custom enhancements. I'm not suggesting that the site become an "ROP" clone...but that there may be a section for more performance minded folks.

I agree sometimes the advice that is given to some is the advice given by racers., and sometimes racer advice can be overkill for a daily driver.

Or in my case I ask questions with racing in mind and I get an answer about restoration. It would separate the performance from the restoration so when you ask a question about a 500HP BBO you don't get an answer like, "the stock exhaust manifolds will work just fine with 2 1/4" pipes"...

I just think if we had a section that catered to that realm then we might get more guys like Brian Trick and 380Racer to join and help us wanna be racers out a little lol! I know it helps to have those guys around when I have a question about my fuel system...which, as of right now is on order

I like it, gives a more precise catagory over just "big block, small block, transmission"
V8Buick.com is set up kind of like that, i like that set up. 100-point resto guys have a place to chat and ask questions and street/strip speed guys have a place as well

Im for it if it dwindles down the number of subforums. All this site needs are more subforums. Before we know it there will be subforums for bolt types.

X2

Its pretty hard to find a thread again once its dropped off the "todays posts" list when its buried in one of those subforums.

Join the big block & small block engine forums into a general Engine forum, and create a separate performance forum that could cover High perf engine stuff as well as drag race & suspension stuff.

Some things should be broken into their own area... other things not so much.

Thumbs up

Why not! If we can have a non-olds powered section, which I do like by the way, why not this? There are a few sections that don't see much action here...

We can call it "Almost Hardcore"

I am for it and wish there was a bunch fewer sub forums too but I don't have the control of that.

I don't so much mind the subforums, it does hide posts sometimes though. I just figured if there was a specific spot for performance / racing questions it might free up the other sections for restoration questions and make the different types of questions easier to reference. Right now, there are performance and restoration questions all lumped together in Big Blocks.

I don't even know why this is even a small block and big block section. Olds motor is an Olds motor one just has a taller deck.

They add sub-forums around here like politicians pass laws. Take a look at how often some are posted in. Some are lucky if they get one or two posts a week.

I'm not saying a Hardcore isn't a good idea. I just think they need to decide how to shrink government first, errrr shrink forums

Most sub forums were added at members request not just out of hand. As the site grows and changes the membership changes as well. This thread has 13 responders total I don't think that is enough to qualify for a new forum yet. On the other hand it would be great to consolidate some forums that are not used or used very little. I will get with the rest of the mod's and we'll see what we can do. Rest assured no matter what we do there will be unhappy members. Its hard to keep everyone happy

Ok, here is a perfect example:

I have ordered a RobbMc 1/2" pickup to put in my stock tank. I notice that they suggest having at least a 1/2 tank of gas when racing so the pickup doesn't go dry due to fuel slosh. Has anyone had experience with this AND is there any modification to the tank or to the RobbMc pickup that can be made so that you can ensure that the tube remains submerged in fuel no matter what the circumstance?

I was thinking about sending it back and getting a Ricks stealth tank but for $1699 I'm not sure I can pull that one off without simultaneously filing for divorce.

Steve (don't know where to post a question like this, but if there was a performance section it would fit right in) BTW, this is a legitimate question so please help a brother out

Cut it open and weld in a baffle box w/ trapdoors around the pickup to prevent fuel slosh. (might want to do some more steps in between the cut & weld steps to eliminate fuel vapors though, otherwise BOOM!)

I've seen some photos of mods like this posted over on team chevelle in their PERFORMANCE forum.

you could also just always keep 5 gallons in the tank when racing and you won't have a problem

Can we add a poll to this thread, or start a new one with a poll?
There are a lot more views of this thread than 15 guys

I have to keep my tank more than 1/2 full or I lose .5 seconds on take off due to stumbling. It is pretty hard to keep the tank looking stock and not getting fuel slosh with a horizontal tank.

Some of the ROP posters are on CO as well. The thread starter just has to make his/her goals clear. A performance forum might help.

That's what I was afraid of...I'm wondering if I should just cancel the order and use a sump. What to do what to do...

I didn't do it because of the biggest reason of all...I ran plum out of money, why else would I put a stock fuel pump on it lol! I am thinking about striping it though...I got a guy that will do it as a wrap for $125. I dunno, I kinda like it without the stripes

Racing/Performance Forum!!! Yeah!!!

ah64...put fuel in the tank..or....put a Fuel cell in your trunk...cut a hole in the trunk floor for the Sump portion of the Cell...cut just the top out of your Stock tank and route the lines from the cell. Anyone looking from the back of your car just sees the bottom of the stock tank...anyone looking in your Trunk sees the Fuel Cell....DON"T LET THEM LOOK IN YOUR TRUNK...

In the vehicle lineup section I would like to see Cutlass, 442, & Hurst merged into one section under A-Body and have other sections for Omega & full size and maybe colonnade.
I am sure that a lot of questions asked on any of the three would not automatically be specific to that model and would be of interest to others.
