Member locations

Maybe a sticky that members can post their city/state? Maybe it’s in their profile but it
doesn’t show up on my iPhone. It would be nice to know who’s close

There was a thread on this but I haven't seen a post in a long time. You might try the search function.

Glenn, I think this is the old thread you are referring to:

Thanks. Doesn’t look like there’s an official list.

Like I said in the referenced thread a while back, there used to be a map, but as technology advanced the map site did not. So the answer to your question is no.

Knowing at least the general location (state in the US, province in Canada, country otherwise) of a member would be helpful 1. in the classifieds so you know if the item is worth pursuing particularly when they state pick up only, 2. in other sections of the forum it may help by placing the member's question in better context and 3. just to know what member may be a close by neighbor.

It would not be necessary as forum rules regarding the classifieds require price and location.

I don't get this one at all. How does it help to know where I am in solving my fuel gauge problem or my car's hot start problem?

Privacy issues here. Many members DO show their location, or at least their general location, in the little box to the left of their posts. I assume those who don't do so want to protect their privacy.

Jaunty, I fully understand the privacy issues and respect all member's privacy. Since I have not posted in the classifieds I was not aware that location is required. That being said, it still would help clarify a lot of what is posted and that is the reason I mention/suggest it. Regarding my #2 above: a person posts (as a hypothetical example): Who has used the "Acme" brand thingamagigit? You research the Acme brand thingamagigit and find it is a made and sold item in a country other than the USA. So knowing this person is in this other country and tariffs may make buying from the US unreasonable pricewise helps us to respond. Thanks for your answer.

People should be encouraged to put as much or as little info to the left as they want. Done.
