I painted the grill and taillight lenses on my 71 with that paint and it matched the original color perfectly.
I just media blasted my 71 grills the other day. Prior, I noticed what looked like black in the 'grooves' on the front side. Is that satin black that's been mentioned before?
Yes on the black. I hand painted mine with a small model paint brush after spraying them silver. That was a chore.
Wow i bet. I have some 1970 442 grill that iwant to repair and paint. Unless i get some cash somewhere out of the blue and buy new or better than what i have.
I ordered a few cans of paint, should be here this weekend.
From this thread, the "Dull Aluminum" can be used for the following:
1970 Front plastic Grills.
1971 Metal Grills.
And Tail Light Lenses (the silver-ish part of course).
Is there anything else that this color could be use for?
The 1970 Plastic grills, also have three horizontal flat-black stripes that support the vertical fins.
I will re-paint by hand and then cover with thin tape, before spraying the while grill.
Question:
Did the Oldsmobile metal logo on the front grill have any black accent paint in the deep scroll line?
It looks like there is some flat black accent paint still inside this logo.
Yes the script had black paint in the logo. I also think it was flat black but not sure. Mine are all faded. Maybe someone else can say if it was flat black for sure.
I repainted the front script. I think it came out good.
I painted the whole script satin black. Then, I used Brillo-pad to clean off the front edge.
I left the satin black on the side of the script.
