70-72 Sunvisor Vanity Mirror
I tried to find what the correct vanity mirror is for the Y-60 Courtesy Light Package, but had no luck. Does the mirror have an Oldsmobile or rocket symbol etched in it, and was it the same from 1970-1972?
Also, it seems from the salesman's Model & Option Price booklet, the vanity mirror was only available with the optional Courtesy Light Package in all of the Cutlass and wagon models, except for the 442 model. The Courtesy Light Package for the 442 does not include the vanity mirror, does that mean it was standard?
Were the clip-on type vanity mirrors a dealer installed OEM option, or just aftermarket?

i have 2 69's A - body cars here with original mirrors still on the visor....one has the etched rocket, and one does not....
i have taken off a few 70 and up visors, and none had the rocket....
i am sure others have their own experiences / opinions.....
thanks

Thanks, Tim. I recall seeing the mirrors with either no etching or Oldsmobile etched in the glazing. Maybe the rocket etching is for mirrors prior to 1970. It is odd though that one of your cars has the etching and the other is plain. Are they both mounted onto the visor or is one a clip-on type? Were the cars built at different plants?

The original mirror in my '68 4-4-2 convertible did not have the etched Olds rocket and I had a NOS replacement that also did not have the etched in Olds rocket. My '69 4-4-2 convertible had the original vanity mirror and it did not have the etched in Olds rocket but the replacement mirror I bought from Fusick does have the rocket symbol.
I have the original window sticker for my '68 and the Y60 option includes the visor vanity mirror, glove box lamp, underhood lamp and luggage compartment lamp, all for the price of $9.06!
I believe the clip-on style vanity mirrors were after-market.

Thanks Ken. I do not recall the vanity mirror rocket etching in any of the 69-72 Oldsmobile's we had, only the etched OLDSMOBILE lettering. I thought maybe Oldsmobile offered the clip on type for over the counter purchases instead of replacing the complete non-mirror visor.

I have had many of those mirrors, some had the rocket, most did not. All of them were part of the courtesy light package. The clip on mirrors were either aftermarket or possibly dealer items as far as I know. I never have figured out which cars came with the etched rocket emblem or not???

The one I have from my Rallye 350 has the rocket on it. I took this mirror off in the early 90s and somehow managed to not brake it all these years.
I have also experienced a very random pattern with and without the rocket. I would be willing to bet that they had both from time to time on the line and is nothing specific to any model.

Thanks Scott. It seems there is no rhyme or reason at this time as to which type of vanity mirror came which year cars. So far it has been either plain or with an etched rocket. Odd that I recall them with OLDSMOBILE etched in them.

Thanks Eric. Ironically, it is my brother's Rallye that needs a vanity mirror. The Rallye has the optional Courtesy Light Package, but the vanity mirror is missing and there are no mounting tabs. We think the original visors were replaced with reproduction ones since the interior had been re-upholstered prior to him purchasing it. I only recall the OLDSMOBILE etched mirrors. From the responses, it seems the vanity mirrors came in three versions, with either the place of manufacture or build date determining which one was installed.

I might be wrong but I think the mirrors with Oldsmobile etched on them were a mid '60s item & were not used in the '68-'72 cars?? I've removed several of them over the last 30 years & it seems they came out of mostly the bigger cars(usually more options) & were from the mid '60s?

This one came with a pile of parts I got with a 72 I bought. Looks like the back tabs were broke off and front needs restored. Only posted pictures in case it helps you find what your looking for. I won't use it so if you think it will help you just pay shipping and it's yours.
