looking to decode the stripe color on a 1970 442 with build sheet info
have a build sheet from a customer ordered car and in box #44 on the sheet "color", it has the LW (lower color) code listed then the UP (upper) with a single letter code and then ST (I assume that means stripe)? with a designation of DGOX anyone ever seen this? Its a freemont build. Car was ordered code 55 galleon gold with a brown vinyl. I've already tried to surgically sand the one time repaint over the original to find evidence of the stripe color with no luck.

Here are a couple '70 sheets & decodes of "BOX 44" lower / upper / stripes / wheels
& the "stripe recommendations" from the January '70 SPECS brochure BLACK / GOLD / WHITE
in the specs brochure, it shows DARK GOLD "bodyguard moldings" - you couldn't get body-side-moldings on a 442, correct?
can you post pics of the sheet? what wheels/wheels covers are indicated?

So many differences if you look at the others posted above. Some called out the paint code (like white) as white or black stripes I assume were not a stripe specific code? But the gold and blue were stripe only and not car colors. If the DG does mean dark gold then I'd be happy as I was going to go gold stripes anyway.

All 5 of my original wheels are stamped MA near the valve stem but not sure either what the OX stands for.

here is another New Jersey build. I restored this car and it was nugget gold and originally had gold stripes on the ram air hood. Look at the supposed stripe color code 55? That's galleon gold which is incorrect for stripes. This car was a SS1 wheel car. Wish I still had this one, factory OAI cutlass S.

Y62 on the last build sheet posted SP PAINT CHG. Would that be special paint change? or special paint charge? The '70 color and fabric book calls it "Accent Stripe H", with no reference to it's shade of color.

so, this is a W25 Forced Air non-W31 Cutlass S hardtop? other than "Rallye 350s" I wasn't aware this was an available drivetrain combo (I guess INDY pace cars fit the same bill)
you are stating the stripes were not "galleon gold" - what were they & how was the color determined?

The W-25 package was available for independent order on any S body 2 door Cutlass, and maybe F-85 as well. I do not know if they were available on 4 door S bodies. They were available on all Cutlass convertibles with the exception of the actual Supreme trim level (as there was only one convertible body.) The 72 Hurst Olds is the only factory set up car with W-25 and Supreme Hardtop body. I may be slightly wrong here, feel free to correct me if you know better.

70 Supreme..Fremont built...gold top 58 paint code with white interior..assume --- special order combo....just for comparison. Early build Aug 1969

I would lean toward special paint charge because nugget gold was one of the 4 special order colors of that year. My 1970 w-30 nugget gold car window sticker has Y68 as the last option for special paint and it cost $83.20

But then someone pointed out to me that the actual paint codes in the Assembly Manual for Galleon Gold body color and Gold stripe color are different. Also, Gold stripes are allowed on a Galleon Gold car, so obviously they must be a different color.
For what it's worth, my '70 W-30, which has gold stripes, has an "H" on the "color" line of the Car Shipping Order, along with "Ebony Black 1919." H happens to be the code listed for gold stripes in the chart on page 39 of section 0 of the 1970 Assembly Manual. You do the math.

This is getting so confusing. I know of a 190 w-30 here in town still an original owner car and it is matador red with gold stripes and all original paint. Your chart shows it as non-compatable (red-gold stripe) I guess anything went back then.

non-compatible color combinations would still be allowed & built on ordered car provided some form of waiver was signed - maybe this is related to the "Y68" code, maybe it's an internal "sign-off" that the color combo was "recommended"?
what if the STANDARD gold stripe "H" is too close when compared to "nugget gold" and that's the reason it's not listed as "recommended" - the solution, use "galleon gold" for gold stripes on a "nugget gold" car?
what color is the car referred to above that has "galleon gold" stripes listed on the GM of CANADA paperwork?
are any of the "normal" stripe colors metallic?

here's another CA built 442 - there was definitely a different format to the CA sheet info:
looks like the stripe colors are 3-digits: DBK (black) & DGO (gold) and --- (3 dashes) for none on the other CA Cutlass Supreme above
& a single digit for WHEEL PAINT
is there a "Y" & "X" in the assembly manual for WHEEL PAINT?

I'm having the same issue decoding the Y68 option on my SX which is Galleon Gold... Could you post a pic of your window sticker that has the Y68 option on it?

Just found this thread and thought I'd throw my .02 in. My car is also a Fremont built car with the build sheet below. It was also a Y68 special paint car. In this case the paint was Viking Blue - a Toronado only color in 70. It even specs the wheel colors as 19 or black. What I hadn't figured out before was the DBK for the stripes. This thread suggests that it means black but that would make this a pretty strange combination - Viking Blue body, blue interior, white top and, I always assumed, white stripes. Now I'm not so sure.
