What is this?
Hello everybody!
I'm from Sweden and just bought my first oldsmobile😀.
A 1976 455 Cutlass Salon.
I'm stoked about it and will make some changes in the future.
Increase power, nas/stockcar paint and build a scoop on it.
It runs kind of bad know and i'm checking the vacuum wich seems to be bad on several places.
I run into this object and I can't find out what it is.
I'll be happy if someone can help me.
It's the grey thing located at right front side.
Regards. Mattias

Given the location on the inner fender it looks aftermarket to me. It almost looks like part of a cruise control, but it's in the wrong placement for what it looks like to me. Do you have any other pictures of it?

What is this
It is a factory option for rear air shocks that is a vacuum operated air compressor, There should be a dial under the dash to adjust the amount of air in the rear air shocks if the car still has them.

You can see where a vacuum line attaches to it.

What is this
Yes the engine vacuum line goes to the port on top and at the small end the air shock line goes to one port on the dash control and the second port goes to the air shocks. The engine vacuum line gets spliced to the p.c.v. line.

That is actually a vacuum-operated compressor for air shocks. A version of that was factory available in some years. I'm not sure about 1976. There was also an aftermarket version called JacPac offered by Delco at the dealer parts counter, which is what this one looks like. As noted, these came with an under dash gauge and control that looks like this:
