Your challenge: Show me a broadcast card 70 W-30 earlier than 166007

367 of the W-30s were built during their first month of production - October 1969. I have yet to find one that is earlier than the one I have with broadcast card proving a real W-30. So show me one and win a prize.

Must post here, no PM. No duplicate winners on the same car, first posted only. Must provide name and shipping address for prize via PM. Anyone???

Must be earlier than this:

10C cowl

10/17 broadcast card

166007 VIN

Good luck!!!

Ok...nothing...

So, I'm increasing the prize. Was going to be a $10 Starbucks gift card, now it is a $20 card to a restaurant of your choice. Must post a pic of the broadcast card, cowl tag, and VIN plate. And...GO!

Earliest one I had was a 10E. It was a California emission car with a W-27.

Early W30

Close but no cigar! 10/20 on the date but also a 10C car

Platinum with a dealer installed black vinyl top, bench seat, 4 speed, AM radio, rallye pack, SS11's, no other options. Purchased in 1972 form local AMC garage as a trade on... who knows. Sold in 2012 with 61.000 miles for reasons I still can't explain. Restored and sold by buyer for $129,000 this year.

Close...you're right. The body number on mine is about 1500 away from yours. That vinyl top is an interesting dealer option. I didn't know they were done that way. Still learning.

Do we have any takers here? Prize going to a $25 gift card tomorrow. Don't hold out too long, someone else may beat you to it.

With the post by Rand5204, I now know of four 1970 W-30s with a date of 10/21 on their Fisher broadcast card (plus one more on 10/22). Interesting.

Ok, at the risk of sounding stupid, what were the cutoffs for the Fisher weeks? Like the 10C week in 1969 was from what date to what date? I'm confused a bit because Rand5204 also said his was a 10C car.

You have to be careful when comparing dates of cowl tags to broadcast cards and then compare them to other cars. These dates are close but not necessarily exactly right. Holidays and weekends and other factors seam to have some kind of affect to them from time to time and can make some of the numbers off a little

There's been a lot of discussion about the week "numbers" and even Julian date codes. I'll let you search for the thread. My personal feeling is that day one and week one of the year do not necessarily start on January 1. Companies often have an internal calendar which starts, say, on the first Monday on or after January 1.

For example, my present employer started Week 01 of 2016 on Monday, January 4. And I bet that if my employer tracks things using a day number (1 - 365) we would say that Day 001 of 2016 was January 4 as well.

So do you guys believe that the cowl date letter codes were always at 7 day intervals then?

By the way, the prize is now raised to $30 gift card to the restaurant of your choice.

Same where I work. I can not say how GM did it but from my line of work, dates can get a little messy at the end of the shift on the end of the week. Maybe they dropped a job but was already dated on one document but then Monday morning another date on another document. I do believe these dates will always be close but you can't put 100% faith in them. Also remember that the dates we almost always refer to are the fisher body dates and not a finished date.

If we get some multiple 10D/E car data then we can start to form an idea of how this went. Anyone out there with a 10D/E or know of one with a broadcast card? Or anyone else with a 10C?

Brian, I thought yours was a 10D car with a 10/21 broadcast card date??? If so how can Rand5204 have a 10C with a 10/21 date on the card?

Found out my own answer, Rand5204, yours is a 10D car not a 10C. I found it online.

I don't know if your going to have any luck. I know there are a lot of folks that come on this site but for example on the 69 H/O there are an estimated 250-300 legit cars remaining and I think there are about 15-20 (if that) that post on this site, but this is a s good of place as any to have a contest

Yes, there were 367 October cars, with the majority of those I expect during the last two weeks of the month, the 10D and 10E weeks, which were full weeks. Being that a 10C car like the one I have is very rare to locate...I'm guessing only a handful of 70 W-30s could be earlier than the VIN I have. And by a handful, I am talking low double digits, possibly single.

Combine that with the survival rate of these cars and finding one with a broadcast card...well, I haven't found an earlier one, nobody else here has found one either. Another member besides me has made a hobby out of it and we share data. He had a few that were earlier but they didn't have the broadcast card.

So this fun game of mine, is really to help me with some marketing verbiage for my eBay ad. Should there be no results here, then I will put in my ad that I posted this to the world's largest Oldsmobile forum and members could not locate an earlier car with a broadcast card, which I'm hoping to be true. If someone does find one then I can still say that it is one of the earliest cars with card, only X other(s) earlier known. I'm fine with that. And by increasing the prize, I'm giving someone that chance. Making it worth someone's while to research, or ask a friend who has one, post to facebook, or ask on another forum.

This is a special car in so many ways. This just adds to it. Maybe not in everyone's opinion, but car show guys like to have something to put on those display boards and they love to have something that differentiates their car from others. This early car can do that.

I'm not being pretentious, but I've always felt this is a special quality this car has that sets it apart. Yes, I took a few marketing classes in college! But I'm also sticking to the history of this car and I shouldn't be afraid to stand up and say what I know to be true. It is one of the earliest 1970 W-30s made. Period. I like that and I'm thinking the new owner will like it too.

Granted I have not read thru your entire threads but you mentioned this is a very special car on a few occasions besides family history and emotional ties why is this car 'special' I know W cars but I am not an expert.

It is a factory 4-speed car. So that makes it one of about 1000 W-30 Holiday coupes with a 4-speed. Combine that with the fact that it is a factory 3.91 rear and it is an early October car, it has the broadcast card discovery both video and photo documented, numbers matching block, it is a survivor car with so many original parts and it has been in the same family for 43+ years...well I'd say that's special.

However, if someone had one they brought home from the junkyard and restored with NOS nut and bolt they could find, I'd say that's special too. I have not had half the job those guys have.

Do we have a winner??? Great! Welcome to ClassicOldsmobile.

Post a pic of the broadcast card, cowl tag, and VIN plate.

Since you are new here, maybe you know how to post pictures, maybe you don't. Follow this link if you are unsure: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-pictures.html

Yes, please post pictures!

I'm not sure, but as a new member you might need to make a few more posts before the system allows you to post pictures. Give it a try.

Post some pics of your car also. I'm interested in seeing it, along with everyone else I'm sure.

That's nice to see and hear a little about. Please let us know more about it. How long have you owned it? What state is the car originally from? What kind of shape was it in when you got it? Others probably have questions too. Nice ride for sure.

The car I have had a manual trans and it was switched over to a 69 Hurst Olds TH400, probably so he could put the headers he wanted on it. 3.91 rear also. You have a few more options on yours. What is in Box 1? W30 was the only thing in the numbered boxes on the card I have.

Was from Virginia originally and I believe came to ohio around 1980. Second owner had til I acquired in 2008. I searched many years for a zero rust, matching number, documented car in a good color to restore. The car did not need restored, but when you start with a great car you end up with a spectacular car when done.

Well, I'm glad you came out of the shadows and stepped forward to post. Obviously you were reading ClassicOldsmobile before as a non-member, so I wanted to say that I'm glad you joined. With only 3100 total 70 W-30s made (who knows how many are up and running today) we need people like you to help the world know about these cars. Nice to hear your story.

You have to have an under the hood pic and an interior pic. Let's see more of it.

So where do you want your gift card for? Applebees? Outback? Car parts store? Send me a PM with your contact details, just click on my username on the left and hit send private message.

Hey Dpclassiccarz, I was serious about the gift card.

Also, I was wondering if you have your original under hood emissions sticker for the car. If you do, could you please post a picture of it? Thanks.
