2016 drag race competitors
I am curious. How many racers do we have here?
If you have been down the track in your car at least one time this year please post.
Post where you raced, what car you raced, what you ran & how often.
I'll start. I have raced 3 weekends in Medicine Hat Alberta. 2 weekends with the 1987 442 & one weekend with the 72 442. I will be racing the 72 442 again the last weekend in Aug. Will race one of the cars at the season finale in late September.
Best pass in the 87 was 11.37 @ 119.4 mph. This was a personal best.

Best pass in the 72 was 11.02 @ 121.5 mph. Car is slower due to old
slicks.

We only went out one time this year and i took runner up in the B.o.P class @ great lakes dragway
We went 12.77 @ 105 in 85 degree weather and somewhere around 75 percent humidity i wanna say. Over all i was happy i ran that good in the weather. Caught some pretty good lights back to back and i got lucky as well but i learned alot finally going rounds. Biggest thing i learned is my dial ins are not too bad i just gotta keep my head together at the line.
We plan on going out atleast 2 more times I think the car has a 12.50 in it . Just need a little cooler weather. I would be going out alot more but i just booked a vacation. last year we went out about 6 times between first week of august and last week of october 2 of those being over night stays.

Ran the same 12.6 this year as last September (4250# w 3.08 gear) . Dealt with some transmission swaps and converter testing in between. Have had all the stuff to switch to 1/2 " fuel supply and regulate better for better Q Jet performance but just haven't put it on yet with the heat and all. Got a race next month so we shall see if I can get the few tenths I think has been missing if the slicks and the transmission holds and no driver error column shift fails.

drag n the olds
gearman,i cant tell you how much i love to see station wagons at the drags, during the 70s i ran a 57 chevy 4 dr wagon with a 283,4 spd,4:56 running consistent 13.40. i go a couple times a year at most, new england dragway, epping n.h. with my 65 f85,455,4 spd w/4:33s.have run 12.50 @ 110mph 3 times none of which i was happy with. last time out missed 4th gear and broke synchro so early day on the trailer.still fun and usually only guy with olds and a stick.jc

I've been racing my 98 Chevy pickup truck this year. It runs high 16s/low 17s. I need to feed my bracket racing urge since my 80 Olds is slowly being put back together, I am going to dyno the engine within a few weeks.
Anyways, I have raced the truck 6 times this year at Great Lakes Dragaway. Five of the six races were in our regular points program. One race was an all run money special. The money special I beat up on all the other actual race cars. In the final, I put my buddy in his 7.50 Camaro on the trailer for a $500 win.
The points races I have a win, runner up, two semis, and a 3rd round exit. The win was for an IHRA Ironman. I missed 4 races due to being the one in charge of the dragstrip (didn't feel the employees were ready to be efficient and needed direction). Once the employees got in sync, I indulged in the art of bracket racing and am currently 5th in points out of 40+ people.
It's probably been the most fun I have had bracket racing since my first year in 2005 running my old 78 Cutlass.

Thats a sweet 65.
Don I think next year im going to get serious about getting into a bracket program. When i compare the track to 5 or 6 years ago its moving in the right direction. We made plenty of runs on the BOP day considering they where running points as well And the track was hooking great. I pretty much needed no burnout !!!!

Got the new engine in last November, and hadn't been to the track yet. Took it to Mason Dixon dragway sometime early June this summer, and made 5 passes. 1st pass after an hour and a half drive in traffic and 10 minute cool down for tech was 12.81@113. I was all over the place for the next few runs just trying to figure it out. Last pass was a 12.47@115; I needed a cold beer (Friday night test and tune). A few weeks ago, I drove to Norwalk for the DMR Race from MD. I got to the track late, and never got any time runs in. I still got the win though! I hit the tires waaaaay too hard, and had to pedal 1st- 2.8 60' ! It went 13.42@111.

Engine now has 5k miles, and hasn't been on a trailer yet.

I went to the test n tune for the Yorkton main event with the 88 CSC. Won the first race, first car out. No time, clock malfunction. The next race, I revved it to hard against the foot brake, spinning to an awful 2.6 60 ft and slow 10.3 in the 1/8. I was hoping to eek a few tenths and get another personal best but the trans decided to puke out the vent I am pretty sure and that was it. Taking the Dakota to the next test and tune, running hard and and the 5500 rpm 1-2 shift with the reprogram is awesome. Any thoughts on getting traction with the All Terrain tires? Thinking of driving around the water box and letting out 20 psi from the tires. Hoping for at least high 9's in the 1/8, should be possible. I want a baseline and see what shotry headers and Y pipe will do. Then 1.7 roller rockers and a throttle body. Making payments on custom cam from Cutlassefi to wake up this 350 and going from 3.42 open to 3.90 posi transplanted into 70 for next years 1/8 mile.

I've been to every points race at SIR this year and once to Medicine Hat for the national open, so approx. 12 race days. Have 6 more race days planned before winter comes.
I've been racing the 81 Cutlass, with a new best of 9.41 @ 142 mph

update
Raced the 72 442 in Medicine Hat this weekend.
Out 1st round on Sat on a break out. Got three runs in T&T and found a better set of shift points for the engine now that I have the offy back on it instead of the Victor (was an experiment). Needed to lower my shift point 250 rpm with the Super Sonic vs the Victor and the car is .15 quicker with the lower rpm shifts.
Sunday I made the 1/4 finals in a 35 car field but red light 0.020". Very frustrating when I do that as I had him covered. Had fun & will get them next time. Had the only Olds in Pro Class.
Best pass was 10.98 @ 121.4 mph with a 1.490 60' time at 3500' corrected.

Ran a personal best of 10.38 @ 125 with 1.38 60' this year. Been a weird schedule at our track this year, and haven't been out as much as normal, and only have about 100-105 runs this year (usually put between 300-350 runs on it per year). I did go to Bristol, TN for the World Footbrake Challenge in July. I won the 3K Gambler race on Thursday, which had I believe 146 cars and no buybacks or double entries. I put 30 runs on the car that weekend.

hasn't been raced in a while as the car is currently undergoing a frame off restoration. With any luck, it'll be back on the strip in late 2017
born with motor it ran 13.8 @ 100. storing that, building a new motor and bumping the compression up to whats allowed for PSMCDR specs

Didn't get the Delta to the track this year, but I did get the Alero. No big numbers like on this thread, but ran low 15's in the heat and humidity and losing traction.
And when I say "losing traction" I spun past the 60' mark. The track officals though I blew the car up

Thanks 69455....That's one very nice motor.My build is close,hp is in the heads.My Edelbrocks are virgins,except for a 5 angle a back cut,and a bowel cleanup.Pretty sure I'm in the 450-475hp range,using a Performer,750 Holley,and HR-538 236/244 cam.Thanks for sharing,and good luck with it.

Went out for a test n tune today. Went 12.55 @ 106.35 mph. was about 80 degrees or so tried a few different things. They worked out. The nitto extreme drag radials worked reallllly well too..
