All-GM show Aug 13 Rockville, MD

I know Nationals are next week, but the All-GM show in Rockville, MD hosted by Capitol City Rockets is right behind on Sat, Aug 13 at Montgomery College. This is one of the few GM shows where Cutlii usually outnumber Camaros. We regularly get about 100 cars representing a wide spectrum of GM cars and trucks, including the Olds-powered GMC motorhome contingent. Where else can you see a Jetfire, a Citation X-11, a Yenko Vega, or a Cartercar? This year's theme is the 100th running of the Indy 500, so we will have a special Best Pace Car award. Show is peer-judged with trophies and door prizes. Food, DJ, and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream available. Swap meet spaces also available.

More info is available here. Hope to see you at the show.

Reminder bump! Show is next Saturday. This is one of the few mixed make shows where Cutlii outnumber Camaros.

Will you be in the DC area? You must drop by, even briefly.

I took the red-eye this morning (Mom's in DC NW), but I have to go to CT on Thurs. I will be making a detour or two along the way back to DC so I don't know what my ETA is, but I think I will be back in time. :fingerscrossed:

Cool trophies! You don't see ones like that everyday.

Not shown in the photo are the trophies for Best-Of marque (Best Olds, Best Buick, etc). Those are similar but each gas pump has the marque logo instead of being generic.

I'll try to make it, Joe. I lost 1st & 2nd last night; need to get her in the air to diagnose. Won't make it if parts need to be ordered. ....

I made it. Turnout was disappointing due to the oppressive heat and humidity. Had a cool conversation with Diego, and met some new folks as well as some old friends. I went looking for Joe, but couldn't find him before I left.

Actually, we had more cars than last year. Unfortunately, the site owner (Montgomery College) threw us a curve at 2:30 on Friday afternoon that forced a last minute move to a different parking lot. We were scrambling Friday evening to rearrange the site layout and the way we were spread out made it look like there were fewer cars than there were. Due to the heat, a lot of people came late and left early, also.

Had a great talk with Diego, who has some amazing data at his disposal. Sorry I missed Bruce, however. If you were there between 1:30 and 2:00, I was in one of the campus buildings tallying the ballots for the award ceremony.

If it was bigger than last year, that's great considering the weather was oppressive. What car won best Olds?

It was a beautiful 1957 Ninety Eight four door, believe it or not.

With a couple of exceptions, the awards are peer-judged. Each registered car gets a ballot. We have Best of Show - Stock and Best of Show - Modified that are selected by a small committee (and in honor of this year's 100th running of the Indy 500, also a Best Pace Car award), but all the rest of the awards are selected by the participants. That means that awards are usually a "beauty contest" more than anything else, but we've tried to structure classes where the all-original brown four-door has a shot at winning. In this case, that Ninety Eight was gorgeous, despite being a more-door. There were a number of really nice Oldsmobiles that could have won, including Marvin Jackson's 1964 Starfire that took best-of-class at Kingsport and Zaman Kahn's modified 68 442 convert.

To be honest, I like to see different cars get recognized at our show.

Just looked one of those up on Youtube. Well the coupe version anyway... The sound and look of that car, I can see why it would win. That is really amazing.
