PM message quantity limit

PM message quantity limit
I know this can be modified by the admin and mods. Are there any plans in the works for users to get a higher limit, let's say by post count of 500 or more...cough cough....
I have learned so much from users sending me PMs here and sharing info, suggestions, thoughts. I know we have the option to download, but it is nice to have all of the PMs in one place.
Right now, I've sorted through my messages and trimmed a few, but my box keeps going up to 95% and I'm afraid I'm going to miss something.

I just delete mine and then later complain that I can't remember something I deleted. I try to delete my outgoing PMs first because I want to save what people sent me more than what I sent them.

My guess is that a request to increase the PM limit will fall on deaf ears, for two reasons.
1. The owners/administrators probably do not want CO to turn into an email service with all of the large space requirements that would require in addition to what is already required to run this site.
2. More importantly, you DO have the option of downloading your PMs to your local computer in any of several formats.
Periodically go down the list, check off the messages you want to preserve, and download them to some appropriately-named folder on your computer. Just keep the most recent, say, 20 or 50 or whatever messages on the site. This way, you still have all the info you ever had, but you don't have such a cluttered PM list.

Storage and bandwidth don't cost as much these days as they did even a few years ago. As of now, there are only 286 members here with at least 500 posts. It would be a nice gesture to give this option to them either on a per-request basis or just all 286.
If you were to limit it to those with 1000 posts, then that would only be 150 members. And who knows how many would even take advantage of the expanded PM service. Plus take into account that 20 percent of these members in those groups aren't active. That means they didn't post in the past year.
So storage and bandwidth from these would be very minimal, almost insignificant.

I gave up on PMs a while ago. It was just too much trouble to figure out which messages were important and which ones weren't and selectively delete.
I figure that since the "Send Email to Member" choice is right under the "Send Private Message to Member" choice, most people will figure it out and just e-mail me.
Ahem. Chris.

Good one!
It is still nice to have that choice. PMs work very well in most forums and although they aren't as convenient as a text, email, or in person conversation, they do indeed serve a purpose - otherwise they wouldn't exist. If you have noticed, there is the option to exclude the ability to have someone contact you via email.
But regarding email vs PM? Yes, I understand corporate capacity limits for those and even those by public email providers....but this isn't exactly large GB of data here that I'm speaking of with the PMs. Text without attachments adds up to very little.
Not that I take that for granted... But it could be considered a perk for those here creating the content that helps drive the ad traffic. I'm not new to this. Not even close.
At one site I'm a member of, they had an "Inner Circle" (a private forum) for members who reached a certain post level. Although I often wondered about the effectiveness of that because, although it was nice to be able to voice concerns that you wouldn't otherwise talk about "in public", they also lost out on some members contributions in the public forum all together once they reached that magic post level. Kind of counter productive when your main goal is to make ad revenue....but anyway...
The PM increase is something that matters to some...just wanted to make my voice heard. Thanks.
