1970 442 Oldsmobile Indy Pace Car

I’m trying to find out if there is another place on the olds I can’t find the cars #. Vin# is 344670M311274 we have Paperwork from when it was purchased 1972 from Norman B Jackson Knoxville TN. Bought originally from Rice Oldsmobile dealership. Looking to sell the car but guy just needs this # to prove it’s the real deal. Olds been sitting in barn for 20 plus years. Was in process of being restored till accident happened and car was left alone. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Is the V.I.N. tag on the dash missing? If the car is original and unmolested then there is a derivative of the V.I.N. on the engine, transmission and frame.
Need a little more specifics.

Vin is still on dash. We are looking for the cars production # was told it should be under rear seat. I’ve read people have found them in several different spots of car. It has original motor just needed paint job and stickers applied.

Unless it’s a festival car I don’t believe the VIN numbers are all known. If the cowl tag has Y74 on it, then it’s a real Pace Car.

edit. I checked the list. Your car is not a festival car.

Doh. I looked at that and saw 970. I assume it's a typo on the part of the OP, since there is no 978 that year. We'll see what the photo of the cowl tag looks like.

Looks like you may have a real deal '72. Post some more pics if you can.
Is it one of the sunroof cars? Any interest in swaps? I would wager
we would like to see more pictures at the least. I know I would. Nice find.

Mind if we call you "The Skipper?" Just kidding, welcome to CO.

Lol I don’t mind being called Skipper. I’ll try and get pictures ASAP but it’s been in barn for 20+ years waiting to be painted before my wife’s Grandpa, who was restoring it, past away unexpectedly. All parts are still in boxes in the basement of house.

Just for my own knowledge, were these the only body colored SS2's in 1970?

Looks like a nice solid example. Are the floors and frame as nice? I see one spot by the gas pedal which is common rot spot even for a dry car but the rest looks good? How many original miles on her?

I’ll check on mileage and get pics of under car when I get home. Engine and trans was rebuilt 20+ years ago. The block was painted same color if I remember correctly. Rest of the body parts are in barn.

You don't find something like this everyday. Nice!

What are your plans for the car?
