I'm going to install a trunk release in my Cutlass and have all the parts to do it, but my car didn't come with the option originally. I see when the glove box door is open that there is a definite indent - a punch - where the button should go I assume, however the indent I have is kind of off center for an OCD like me lol. For those who have the trunk release, is your button a bit off center? This one would have me drill the hole to the right. I'll post a pic from my phone. Thanks!

Careful drilling that hole! The assembly manual says to drill it to .750 or 3/4 ". I did that, then the button fit loosely. I'm not sure if mine is a "correct" button though. Anyway when you drill it work up in steps in size to make sure you don't go too big.

OH, yeah - I was thinking that as well. I figured to go small and slowly file it bigger. Nothing like drilling a hole where there wasn't one before.... I was going to go buy a digital caliper so I could really measure what I have and match that as closely as possible with an SAE or metric size bit.
I would drill a 1/4 (.250) pilot hole with your portable electric drill. Best drill bit would be an aircraft series with a 135 deg. split point. Then finish off with a tapered hand reamer to the size you need. Standard drill bits are not designed to open holes to a large size. The bit will walk all over the place and really mess things up good.

We got some spring right after a big snow. Now... floods. Worst since 1975 in Lansing. Anyway, I used a step bit to drill the hole and that may have been the problem...Drilled good but maybe the step was actually more than 3/4"??

If there is concern about hole size tolerance it is always better to drill and then ream.
