I was looking at a pic I took of the speedometer. I am guessing the speedometer has been "spun back". I doubt the car has only 25957 miles. Notice how the "2" lines up lower than 5957.
I can't comment on the actual miles on the car, but it is not uncommon for the numerals on the odo drum to get misaligned over time, especially if the drum gets sticky between the wheels. I had to change the odo drum in my 62 because of this. "Spinning back" isn't normally done. It's much easier to simply pull the speedo, remove the odo drum, and set it to whatever you want.

Thanks Joe. Could they be cleaned or lubricated without ruining them ? I am thinking WD40, LPS1 or "3 in 1 oil". I might as well set to "0" when the car goes back together. I don't think mileage certification is a factor on a car this old.

I had another speedo, so I just swapped mine. The drums are plastic and most cleaning solvents will damage the lettering. Electrical contact cleaner may be your best bet. Do not use a lubricant like WD40 or anything petroleum based on the plastic. Silicone spray is a better choice.
