This intake was wrapped up in plastic in the trunk of a Rally 350 that I purchased 15 years ago. I no longer have the car. I would like to add that I am asking $2,900 or best acceptable price.

Dave, I would be very interested in your research on this intake. A couple of things I would like to know.
With the date code of 8/13/69. Could it be date coded correct for a late 69 as well as a 70 W-31.
I was told that it was not the right application for a Rally 350. If that is correct what would be the correct application?

The first w31 intakes were made in August of 1969, and were casted until to mid 1970s. They were exclusively on 1970 w31s. Hope this info helps

Joesw31, yes that helps. So that would make this intake cast in the very first month of production August 13, 1969. I wonder if anyone knows of an earlier dated intake. Thanks

casting date

The W-350 intake for my 1970 Cutlass W-31 was cast Aug 27 1969 so you got me beat by 2 weeks.

Most of the W31 intakes were casted in August. However, I have seen September, and October. And in April they changed casting numbers on the intake, that differed slightly. Hope this helps

Wow, that’s really neat (one day). I may be shooting myself in the foot. But, what do you do with a low production NOS 48 year old special W-31 intake?
Hang it on the wall?

You can as Eric did. The intake is worth what the market will bare. If the intake was for a w30, then, I am sure it would had been sold. I was curious is the carburetor mounting flange pitted?

It does have some texture to it. It is not perfectly smooth. Like small machined grooves. I will be home on Tuesday and will post some better close up pictures.

joesw31 If you look at post 17 and zoom in on the carb mounting area you will see the same machined finish. Also on post 16 but not quit as prevalent.

In your pictures the carb mounting area appears to have some pits, but it could be the picture. Good luck with your sale.

I had one of these I bought about 14 years ago for $500 that I was going to put on a 1971 Supreme Convertible. After deciding that was a stupid thing to do, I sold it for the same price to someone who had a 70 W-31 (which is where a piece like this belongs IMHO). And that was 13 years ago. Wow, just to see one NOS, nicely done!

Yep, if we even knew! Seems in the 90s all these parts were already "expensive" already! in reality with the inflation some of these parts are still the same but some have gone through the roof. I can't tell you how many swap meet W31 manifolds I didn't buy - let alone Cutlass pace cars and Rallye 350s for less than 10k.

Close, but still winning by one day. Still can’t help but wonder if August 13, 1969 could have been the first casting date. I don’t see that making any difference in value. Just curiosity sakes.

I really have no idea what the value is on this NOS intake. I understand that it is worth whatever someone is willing to give. But, for now I am changing the price to $2,500 plus shipping charges. Thanks

I know this is a “dead” thread, but the casting date pics are still interesting. Mine is 8/7/69, but I don’t see that I can post a pic here to show you...
