Hello guys( & ladies),
When I purchased my '70 442 the guy I bought it from in Atlanta had a magazine with the exact same set up car on the cover. He wouldn't include it in the purchase of the vehicle, but was pretty sure it was the same car. It's the 1983 November cover for Car Exchange. The magazine issue featured the 442's, and it is a color cover shot with a Sebring Yellow '70 convertible w/black interior, sport mirrors, W-25, etc. I'd be interested to see if anyone has seen this or has more info. I was able to find the issue a couple years ago and will scan it to put on here. If it happens to not be mine maybe it's a fellow member here. Thanks!

its not my car. i added the w25 hood in 1988 during the rebuild.

i would love to see the picture and have always wondered how many were painted sebring yellow. unfortunately there is no way to know

In the late 80s, there was a guy by the last name of Kellar in Miami had a yellow 70 W-30 convertible. Only one I've seen in person. Don't see too many yellow ones.

I've seen two W-30's(not sure if true W-30's as claimed) for sale at dealers, but none up close. Never thought I'd have a yellow car, but it really caught my eye. Any other Sebring Yellow info outside of the Rally 350's is great to hear. Thank you! Still looking for any info on this magazine. Anyone else have a copy? I'd be interested in purchasing another copy.

I believe it's the same car that was in an old issue of Car Collector magazine . . . at least I think that's the name of the magazine.

I'd be interested to see that as well. There aren't very many convertibles in this color so could be the same.

There's one here in Massachusetts. I seen him last year at one of our cruise nights. If I see him this summer, I'll take some pictures.

Boy those are good looking drop tops....I am currently @ the end of a complete restoration on a Sebring Yellow W-30....I have the original broadcast card and a couple of weeks ago I got some excellent news from the guy doing the interior. He found a build sheet to go along with the broadcast card so now I have about as much proof as you can get that this is indeed an original W-30.....as we all know it can be extremly difficult to prove what these cars really are and I feel extremely fortunate that I have the documentation to strengthen my case....I know there is no way to know how many were done in a specific color but since this was a one-year only color I would be curious to know if you-all have seen many/any W-30 cars in this color? I personally have only seen 442's in Sebring and no W-30's....it really is a stunning color in person.....

Awesome...do you have any documentation for the W-30? Just curious since there are so many out there with nothing to confirm that they left the factory as original W-30 cars....I have a friend with a 2-owner car and absolutely no documentation....we both know for a fact it is original but without ANYTHING to prove it he has gotten nothing but low-ball offers.
A 4-speed makes it even better, my car is an automatic....

My 1972 is an X vin code so I'm sure it is a 455 W-30 4-speed 442. I also have the plastic protecto-plate but don't have the build sheet. I've been trying to find where it's written that my car is 1 of only 289 produced in 1972. Can't locate that info but the previous owner & a member of ClassicOldsmobile.com told me it is. Forgot to mention that yesterday, while I was at my friends Olds Parts warehouse, a customer stopped by with his 1971 Olds 442 Vista Wagon, it was also painted Yellow like your cars. Pretty cool to see a Vista Wagon without the glass roof. Had a chrome roof rack on it. Pretty cool restoration project the guy has going.

No offense to my noble ancestors, but it takes just one look at that cover to send me back to genuflecting at the altar of Photoshop.

I JUST missed the cut-and-paste paradigm, and I thank the stars every day for PageMaker, InDesign, Photoshop, etc. But I bet my kids will look back on my quaint "2D" era, laughing and shaking their heads at my having to use a mouse and a keyboard...

i did see a hardtop 442 at the olds national show about 12 years ago, car was from Connecticut, his data plate showed the " -- " like joes car.

i wonder if that is the car you are seeing in up in Mass.

Could be the car. I see quite a few around here with me being on the outskirts of Rhode Island, I have the benefit of cruising both States. We have many cruise nights here, at least two or three every night we have a choice of attending.

I'll see about scanning the article this weekend. I posted I would do so, but for some reason it's not showing up here. Funny, I've been talking with a guy about an OAI original hood and he asked where I bought mine. Apparently he sold a Sebring Yellow W-30 convertible to a guy in '06 for resto. He forgot where the guy was, but said it was that color and in the South. The more I dig, the more I find there were a few of them.

After forever of forgetting about this I was able locate the magazine and upload photos of the cover and article. Alex Gabbard is cedited with the photo on the cover. I’d be interested to know if it really is my car or someone else’s Sebring Yellow convertible. If anyone knows, feel free to respond. Nov 1983 Car Exchange.

What do you need to know? There are records of 289 L-77 / M-20 cars built in 1972.

Sebring Yellow similar to Chevy Daytona Yellow, is a Kool Muscle Car color. Since Olds did not break down color combos we would not know the exact percentages. I can say that I have seen numerous 442s and W-30s in Sebring Yellow. I also know of some Yellow Yellow - - cars that were repainted to the owners color preference, forever erasing the Yellow color provenance as no factory paperwork existed.

Not "similar to"; Sebring Yellow IS Daytona Yellow IS Saturn Yellow IS Goldenrod Yellow. They are all the same paint code for 1970 (51) and the same formula (PPG 2094, for example). Just different names from each division.

Here's a few pics of the 70 W-30 we finished last year. It was a matching number, clean original sheetmetal car that got a complete nut and bolt frame off restoration. Sebring Yellow dash dash code, 4 speed with 3.91's.

Great looking car! Must have had to replace fenders as I see crumple ridges on top of them versus '70 flat top. Really nice job here.
