Can anybody provide me with an illustration showing the installation of a rear bumper on a '55 Olds 88. I would like to see the brackets and mounting arrangements. I assume it is shown in the Assembly Manual, unfortunately I do not have access to one.
Thanks..Mike
I'm assuming you don't have any of the parts, brackets or whatever If you have the parts it's pretty straight forward assembly. I'll see if I have any pictures... Tedd
Can anybody help me out with a picture or diagram of the rear bumper bracket attachments? Possibly a reference in the Assembly Manual?
I have none of the brackets, just the bumper. Will need to purchase brackets if I can find what I need.
Many thanks. Mike
My 1960 Olds parts catalog has illustrations of both '54 and '56 bumpers.
It skips over '55 , perhaps because it may be similar to either '54 or '56 .
Anyway , here they are . Hope this helps .
A bit late to the party, but according to my parts book the 53 and prior used two brackets (inner and outer "back bars") per side on the rear, and starting in 54 the went to one bracket per side. On the front bumper you can see they moved to one back bar per side in 55. Unfortunately, it shows different parts number every year, so minimally you would be looking at trying to modify brackets off of any other year, car if you can't find the correct 55s. I don't see the B-A-C-P codes for cross-use on other GM cars either, but can't recall if this is the book that included that info.
I think the few pics in these books were mainly used to identify the various part names, and therefore they don't show every year. Sheet metal is a little more detailed in pictures.
