hi everyone, newbie here, just bought a 62 starfire with 42k, all original. I plan to make the car a good driver, not into a full resto since ihave neither money or space. any help anyone can give would appreciated. I have already done a full frame off on a 70 chevelle ss 396, so I know the issues I will face. thanks in advance, gus

Welcome. Unfortunately, restoring a car that is nearly 100% available from a catalog does not prepare you for the "issue" of parts availability. Repro parts for the Olds full size cars are limited at best. Sheet metal and most trim is not reproduced. Nothing from an Impala fits. Suspension and brake parts can be hard to find also - the Chinesium parts that Kanter sells don't necessarily look or function like OEM. Good luck and let's see photos.

Joe is right , it's a lot tougher to restore a full size Olds than it is to restore a "catalog" car.
The best source of repro parts is probably Fusick Automotive in CT . Their catalog can be had here ;

E-Bay will become your best friend . Establish , 1962 Oldsmobile , as one of your favorite searches . Check it daily , even the most obscure stuff will eventually pop up . Although it may take many years .

Some Chevy parts will fit . Most of them are body parts. The trim and rubber gaskets around the windows . The windows themselves . Interior and exterior door handles . Ashtrays and other small interior parts . Weatherstripping , and door bumpers etc .
When it comes to chassis and drivetrain , almost NOTHING interchanges with other GM cars . The only exception to this is that the rear axle and transmission are shared with Pontiac . Although the Pontiac "slim Jim" trans has a different front case , to bolt up to a Pontiac motor .

As the owner of several "unsupported" years and models, I'll add that the most effective ebay search method I've found is to get yourself a factory parts book. Searching for the actual GM part number on ebay often yields an amazing number of NOS parts still for sale. They won't be cheap, but they are available.

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your good taste in big Oldsmobiles. There aren't many of us around compared to the Cutlass brigade but you are very likely to have the only Starfire at any show you attend. Good advice from Charlie and Joe, looks like you have good raw material to start with. Start up a project thread and keep us posted on your progress.

That's the speed control resistor for the HVAC blower motor.

Actually, this is the resistor for the A/C side of the system only. The resistor for the heater side is located inside the car, in the heater duct. Two separate systems, two blower switches, one blower motor.

hi again everyone, drained gas tank yesterday, gonna pull it tomorrow, nothing like varnish in a gas tank, lol. I also removed the fuel pump, any ideas on rebuilt pumps??? thinkin about sending carb out also.

pulled tank today, wow, nasty gonna need new fuel tank sending unit, all kind of crap in tank, thinkin this rhing must had water in it

I checked my parts book , and the number of that unit is 5642244 .
And it says that it fits all 62 & 63 Olds except station wagons and F-85's.

I googled that number and it turned up this ;

here's the latest,
called collectors, they referred me to a place called usa parts supply in west va. they quoted me a price of $723. 00 for rebuilding carb, fuel pump and sending unit. what do you guys think?? anyone deal with this place???

I live about half an hour from them. I have no experience with their rebuilding service but I've bought parts from them. No issues with that.
