NASCAR blocks

How hard is it to find a Nascar block, or engine? What are they going for? Is there different versions? Bore size/Siamese/not Siamese?

I guess same goes for heads. What did they use in NASCAR? What years? Iron/aluminum?

I want to build an endurance engine for road racing. Probably short deck and stroke, with max bore size, and small rod journal billet super short stroke crank. As big a cam diameter and lifter diameter as possible. Has anyone run a bigger cam bearing, roller or otherwise? Are belt drives available? We're they used back then in NASCAR?
I will probably have to use a torker intake with a spacer. Not for hood clearance, as it will be dry sump, but for rules, because it needs to be a manifold from the period. What did NASCAR use?

The only Torker is for a BBO and is too wide to fit the SBO-based NASCAR block. Typically they used Batten heads and matching intake. You'll find it a lot easier to find a DX block, by the way.

Which is not an SBO and also not "period correct" for the class he's trying to build for.

Intakes and heads, block for endurance engine

Well, I was thinking the batten heads were like the write up I saw for the new Wise cylinder heads with high ports that make a sbo as wide as a bbo. What is max bore on a DX block, and how much extra weight compared to a 403? Is the Nascar block just as heavy too? I'd really like to find any good source for NASCAR program info. Parts available each year, head designs and builders.

The intake width difference is 1.5". The heads do not make the SBO intake any wider. The Batten intake required spacers to use it and the Batten heads on a BBO. These photos show the spacers for both the intake side of the heads and for the block end walls needed to run the Batten Victor intake on a BBO. The Batten Victor is the same width as any other SBO intake.

This old article provides info on the diesel and NASCAR motors.

if you stay true to your desires then yes you’re looking at a billet crank for either the DX or NASCAR block.
From there I’d just do a set of Edelbrocks or ported irons if needed. Intake may be a problem unless you can find the Batten stuff. EFI would help with throttle response as well if allowed
I’d say all in all you’re looking at $12-14,000 for a solid DX based build. Add about $2,000 for a NASCAR block, if you can find one.

The OP has hinted at some class rules that require "period correct" parts. Since we don't know what period, what racing organization, or what rules apply, we don't really know if later aftermarket parts like E-brock heads would be appropriate. Unfortunately, until the OP provides a little more info, it's difficult to provide useful build combo information.
