I have a 70 442, 455 with some modifications. I am having trouble with traction it is a 4 speed and somewhere I read about this for all 4 speed cars. Does anyone have any idea or info about this? I don't know what the part would have been called.

 

triangulation brackets..all stick cars and most big block got them..f41 for chevy ...ralley or fe5? of something like that for Olds..cant remember the code.

Those are better called frame braces than traction bars. Unless your frame is cracked I wouldn't expect them to have any effect on traction. Of course, they won't hurt.

Are you perhaps thinking of traction bars which relocate the pivot points of the control arms? Totally different, and they were never factory-installed.

 

I have a set of those on my 69 4 speed weird car came with boxed trailing arms sway bar these things 4 speed and a 350 2 bbbl go figure motor tranny original to car and oh yeah a 3.08 posi lol smh

 

Yes, these were standard with 4 speed cars and basically any car that got boxed rear control arms with sway bar, FE2, F41, etc. Also, a little known fact, every 70-72 Monte Carlo got these regardless of what motor or trans the car had. Was also told Grand Prix of the same era also had them as well.

 

That's interesting. I'll go check my Monte Carlo; learn something every day.

These are not present on 68 442 autos.

Eddy thats an odd ball for sure...Someone ordered a 4 speed 350 2bbl with FE2. The Braces must be mandatory for stick cars 68...69...through???? at least 72??? This is theory only...but would make sense. FE2 with Auto or with stick... thought FE2 was FE2. More anomalies...

I have them in my 67 4 speed car; they make them for 68-72 as well. I can't say they did a ton for traction, however, they did reduce the wheelhop by about 1/2 (I used to feel it, now it just shows in the stripes on the pavement :-D).
