Took the "NEW" race car to the drag strip
hello all!
Took the 70 Cutlass S race car to Panama City Dragway today! Made two easy passes to check it out. Ran good, drove straight, and handled very well. No vibrations, weird noises, no bad fumes, etc. Did a plug reading and checked valve lash. Everything said GOOOOOOOOOOO! Soooooo on the 3rd pass I did a mild burn-out, staged and let it rip in 1st to 2nd only @ 5,600 and then 2-3 @ 5300 rpm, hummmmm felt good. Soooo 4th run did a nice 1-2 burn out and rolled out from the water box. Staged car on the top bulb, then bumping into the stage light, loaded the converter @ 2,000, turning a .051 reaction time, shifting @ only 6,000 resulting in a 7:14 @ 97 mph in the 1/8! OK me happy. Going through the trap @ only 4,000! Did two more runs , 7:15 @ 96.56 mph, then a 7:16 @ 96.70 mph, so very consistent right off the bat! WOW 60 foot times were 1.57!
Cannot describe the feeling of being again in a BBO Olds (or SBO stick car) and feeling the rush of acceleration! Gezzzzzs at first I though I had an orgasm! lol
Now this car only has a 4:10 gear, so really set up for 1/4 mile. I have another Moser 12 bolt Ch**y rear end with a 4:56 gear set. Most tracks here in North Fla are 1/8 mile.
Anyhow, really satisfied with our first time outing.

Great news. At that time you should be able to get 11.20s out of it.

Thanks everyone, feel like a good starting point!
380 racer:
Thanks Nick. As I get use to this new car I want to try "your 3 rd gear water box burn out technic". Really pleased with our first time out!
SBORule:
Yes, going to Gainesville in the future (2 1/2 hr. drive). Also, South Ga. Motor Sports Park (also a 1/4 mile track), which is a shorter drive for us.

Nice one Dave, yep those times should give you low 11's in the quarter. My Old's runs 10's but i have to cheat and put a 200 shot of NOS into the 455 to do it, keep us all posted on how you go, cheers, Paul, U.K.Jason and the Olds Mopars 2012.jpg
