SBO American Headers in a 66 Cutlass
The dust is building up too thick on my 66 so early 2022 its time to get it back on the road. I picked up a stock 403 to drop in for now but will get a centrifical supercharged SBO as I get funds to build the new motor. I would like to build my exhaust system now that will work OK with the 403 but really work well with the new combo. Its a pro-touring street car not a race car.
Anyone have experience with these American Racing headers especially in a low car? How is the fitment and ground clearance? Will they clear a 4speed bell crank or have to convert to hydraulic?

I have them in my '72. My set is one of the early sets made back when Smith worked with ARH to design them, so who knows if there have been revisions.
Ground clearance is excellent. My canton oil pan sits much lower than the headers. My buddy's Chevelle with ""tucked"" headers hang several inches lower.
Filter clearance is good.
I use 5/16 studs on the rear two holes on the driver side and the rear hole on the passenger side, then a 5/16 head bolt on the next to rear hole on the passenger side. That next-to-back hole on both has very little room for a wrench. There's plenty of room around the rearmost holes, but it's a PITA to get the angles right, hence I use studs there. Can't use studs further forward because the header won't get past them. So they do route very close to the crossmember.
No idea on the clutch linkage.

I don't do facebook or any social media. I did look it up and it looks like it starts at 11:00 and is a cruise in with no fees or trophies. I might show up but that could depend on the weather. Thanks

Here's a video I took of the UMI performance '65 Cutlass a few years ago. It's a 330 with American Racing Headers. Ramey from UMI told me they fit like a glove with absolutely zero issues. I wished I had included the engine compartment a bit better in the video so my appologies. They're obviously on the higher end of the price scale, but that's the difference between buying off-the-rack at Sears and buying a tailor made suit.

Hey Richard good that your back in this Club! as you recall I was downsizing and getting ready to retire from the Corp. world ( effective 12/31) Sold the collection except for the 63 Starfire. Glen has been coming over and we have been restoring things as needed to keep the car original as possible. Merry Christmas see yeah soon.

Hey Richard, glad you’ve resurfaced, and bringing your cool ‘66 out of storage! The ARH headers fit perfect on my ‘71, using the Z bar, plenty of clearance, I did have to use a Powermaster starter.
Rocket On!

Good evening everyone! I wanted to chime in for a quick minute. I’m new to the forum, my first Oldsmobile, but I’ve already learned so much.
I actually am running the Thornton headers from Thornton muscle cars. I have absolutely zero fitment issues and I love the power and aggressive sound. Good luck, and I can’t wait to learn more!!
