Quadrajet vs. aftermarket

Quadrajet vs. aftermarket
I have a Edelbrock 3711, which accepts the qjet. ( is it a fact that the 3711 will not accept a after market carb due to the EGR port being in the way of the linkage) My engine ( 68 350) is being bored and stroked. Higher compression pistons yet to be decided upon. I will be having mid level ( #5 heads)porting and polishing done too.Cam has not been chosen yet. Being that the 3711 is more or less for the qjet, should I use a qjet as opposed to getting a 2711 and some type of aftermarket carb? That being said, are the aftermarket qjets from Summit any good? Which carb will be the most user friendly? My main goal is off the line "go" and tire chirrping shifts.
I was unable to find a thread relating directly to this question, if someone is aware of a thread, link please!!
Thanks!!

That intake will accept square or spreadbore carbs and you can block off the EGR and choke ports. On my 350 I have a Holley 80457 sitting on a 3711 intake with a 1/2" spacer. Runs fine right out of box but would someday like a good qjet. Sounds like quite a motor you are building, not common to stroke an Olds. Performance gurus here can give more specific input on your carb options to suit the build.
$50 shift kit on a TH350 will make most any motor chirp tires 1-2.

I have on lay a way ( 200$ to go) a Super Sport Shift Level 2 th350 from Monster so that will take care of one "want".....Did the spacer you used cause any hood clearance issues? Does the spacer provide enough EGR clearance to be able to choose from a few different carbs? You seem to allude that your thoughts are a Qjet is better than the Holley????? I have not been able to find the egr blocking plate, have a source? Regarding the stroking...I will, in the Chairman's words, be able to say " I did it my way"............
Thanks!
Thanks!

No hood clearance issues using an aftermaket air cleaner and assume a 1/2" spacer also works for Ebrock carbs. Nothing bad about the Holley, just good experiences with stock Qjets in my youth and pretty efficient when you go easy on the right pedal. Search the forum and you will find lots of threads on the pros/cons of the major carb makers. Blocking plate comes with the intake so search the ususal parts houses or contact Ebrock customer service. Wrong side view for the EGR but maybe this helps.

Thanks for the info.....I am going to use what I have then, the 3711. It appears that the EGR block off plates are no longer available, suggestions? Also wondering, I will be using a spacer, what the diff is between a 4 hole or the single large square hole spacer?

I'm a huge fan of Q-jets and have built several for people here and on other sites. They can run into the 10's set up well, and on street/strip cars, have crisp throttle response and decent economy as said in the above post. The Wheel Stand on my car in my sig picture is with an 800 Q-jet I set up.
Open spacer usually gives more mid and top-end, four hole may help bottom end some. Both aid in insulating the Carb from Manifold heat..a good thing for power.

Initial talk with the machinest....still a few decisions to make, looks like an off set grind and over sized pistons etc. I have no desire to do the 455 thing so just going to spiff up the 350 a bit to gain some cubes.
