Pure Stock Races 68 Ram Rod vs. 65 GTO

had a blast at the Pure Stock Drag Race this past weekend
up in Stanton MI.

Got to "shoe" Dave H's Ram Rod for the event and we got matched
up against a 65 389 Tri Power GTO for best 2 out of 3 match race.

Ram Rod 3 - GTO "ZERO"

The match race was win 2 out of 3 but they had all matches run three races regardless of whether or not 1 car won first 2 races.

There were more Olds there this year than I recall ever seeing
in the past representing our marque with some very fine looking and
running machines.

THANKS DAVE for letting me row the gears for the weekend buddy.
I had a BLAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember that Ram Rod from when I first started going there about 13 years ago. It was always one of my favorite cars running! My dad and grandpa were there this year running a 69 GTO Judge and a 70 Buick GSX.

good deal Rob. Being that I was back in the pack so to speak and trying to find a push starting crew (starter issues), I didn't get to see any of the shootouts.

I believe Dave's car now runs 14.30s. It's been through many configurations, but still an original owner original paint car. Good to see both you and Dave this past weekend.

yes, Diego is still the announcer

I remember the first time that I saw this car at Purestock a good 12+ years ago, it was on a trailer with it's twisted driveshaft laying beside it, "damn, a small block twisted it's driveshaft?" was my thought. Always enjoy the regulars who are there year after year, but also noticed some who were not there.

Yup that year was the first time that car raced in over 20 years. Still had everything original in it at that time .. turned out to be a blessing cause after that event - ( it cracked the bell housing too ) we tore the motor down to see how it faired only to find I think it was 3 pistons with missing skirt pieces and broken rings. That was a bomb waiting to go off.

Actually Chris - I managed to ring out a 14.06 on Sat AM. Not sure what combo is in it now is matched as should be - If we can get Dave's 66 L69 dialed in - will probably run that one next year and have a reason then to dive back into the 68 to see if we can get it back in the mid -low 13's where it belongs. Bottom line is it was nice to get Dave back out and mixing with his buddies again after all he's been thru this past year.
