Stumbled across this older thread as I was researching Olds machinery for hobbyist Roadracing. I currently run a '03 Corvette Z06 and notice the lack of Buick, Olds and Pontiac participants. Got me wondering what it would take (besides a significant amount of cash) to build a high reving small block Olds that could survive a track day of 3 or 4 sessions lasting 15 to 20 min at the 3000 to 6000 RPM range. A mid '80s Cutlass would be a good platform as there is a large amount of suspension and brake upgrades for the G-body. Any engine builders have any suggestions?https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/general-discussion-33/olds-nascar-149936/
AJ Foyt ran an SBO-powered Cutlass in NASCAR in the late 70s. This is where the Olds NASCAR blocks came from. They were derived from diesel blocks. This is also why the Batten heads were developed.
