New PB 11.37 @ 119.37 mph @ 3800'

On Sunday morning I got punted for running 11.37 @ 119.37 mph with no roll bar in my 1987 442. Corrected elevation was 3800' on that pass. Car weighs 3970 lbs with driver & fuel. This is the 470 stroker SBO powered car.

I usually shift 1-2 and the 2-3 at 6200 rpm & go thru the traps at 6400 on the new 245 55 15 M&H Racemaster drag radials. On that pass I had a bye run & decided to lay off & short shift 1-2 @ 5600 rpm. Well the engine loved it & that short shift must have dropped me right into the meat of my torque curve because the car went a new best MPH at the 1/8 mi & at the 1/4 mi & the posted the second best ET ever (my engine builder went 11.33 @ 116.5 mph previously in a T&T).

It was almost worth getting the DQ to learn that I had been over revving the 1-2 shift. They put me in the penalty box for the rest of the Saturday race carryover but let me back in to run Sunday afternoon eliminations with a warning not to run under 11.50. I dialed 11.50 on the windshield & left the car in drive. It shifts on it's own at 5000 rpm & ran 11.52 @ 118.5 mph for a 1st round win. Second round I used the same approach but spun the tires to my worst 60' of the weekend (1.70) & ran 11.60 which was not anywhere good enough to win when my opponent ran 10.278 on a 10.27 dial. Normal 60' time on the Racemasters is 1.59-1.62.

Leave it in drive and you should have the best time and consistency. But I think I see a roll bar in your future.👍

Sea level correction 11.0 @ 123 mph

Thanks guys. Sea level correction puts me 11.0 @ 123 mph.

For a nearly 4000 lbs car on a tiny tire that is very satisfying.

For most of my Oldsmobile life I was only a big block guy. This small block stroker has really opened my eyes to the SBO potential.
