Need some 394 flywheel help!

Good Morning,

I just purchased a '62 394, 4bbl and want to convert it to stick and understand that I will need a flywheel just for 61/64 394's??? The engine is still 400 miles away, but had an auto on it. I have a '55 Holiday running a '59 371 stick with a 5 speed and that this where the '62 394 is going to end up. Can I modify/use the flywheel from my '59 371 for use on the '62 394??? Any help you guys can give me will be sincerely appreciated. A correct wheel, if needed, would be nice as well.

Thank You for your help! Tom

Tom, I'm not 100% sure, but I thought I read somewhere, that the correct crankshaft is also needed. Hopefully someone with first hand knowledge can answer your questions.

Thank You for the info. I THINK I will be Ok if I work some machining magic with the pilot bearing/bushing area and be mindful of the balance business??? The engine has quite a bit of mileage, so it will be torn down, rebuilt, get a decent lump lump cam, and be balanced. Over the last 55 years I have had my share of harmonic shakers. (out of balance stick Olds conversions) Please jump in, if this old 'Rocket Crazy' retired Vet is full of it! Thanks again for any and all help!

Thought I have read here, more than once, that the cam has to be changed/modified to accept the main shaft of the manual trans? It is too long to mate up properly without the change/mod?
