Least Restrictive Exhaust SBO?

All,

I'm looking for the least restrictive exhaust system for racing (with mufflers) that compares to open exhaust headers for my 72 Cutlass Olds 350. Maybe headers 1 3/4 primaries x 3 inch collector to 3 inch X-pipe and finally dumping into mufflers (DynoMax Bullets or Dynomax 17749's) before or possibly after the axles.

I plan on running a 1972 350 SBO stock internals with only a performer intake, 650 Holley DP, T-350, Old Vega Converter, 3.90 gear with eaton posi, 295/65/15 or 30 inch tall Mickey T drag radials. No other perf mods. Street/Sportsman class car.

What is everyone using on their cars? Again looking for little to no dropoff in ET between open and dual exhaust.

Looking for the Borla collector muffler quiet sound that you see on dragsters.

i have a 3 inch x pipe and dynomax ultra flow mufflers stainless mufflers. I want 200 for the whole set up it has turn downs at the axle . I am a firm beleiver in an x pipe . on my 72 i run a 2.5 inch x pipe system with hooker aero chmabers with a home made bolt on deal so i can take the mufflers off at the track. I went from straight duals to an x pipe and ran faster than with open headers. That was my experience.

TripDeuces,

Thanks for the article. I think 2.5 is a good way to go along with the Dynomax 17749's. Those mufflers are extremely quiet from the videos I've seen.

2" Hooker Super Comps to 3.5" tapered cones to 3" Torque Tech mandrel bent head pipes to 3" Jegs 2 chamber welded mufflers with 3" turndowns.
Never ran with open headers and probably never will.
This exhaust is very light and sonds good too.

If you want the best flowing, start with the American racing headers. I bet they are worth a good amount on a radical engine. I will eventually upgrade my Sanderson headers, focusing on the motor. I need to get the front half done properly, using the 2.5" Hooker cat back from my X pipe back.
