it would be nice if the carb change/tuning could get you in the 12's curious what fuel you are using

What rpm are you getting total timing versus your stall flash ? Consider testing with timing locked out all in at idle may need a coil toggle switch to start.

Total timing is in around 3000 rpm. Bumped it to 36 degrees running sunoco 110 just for safety sake. For now I think the biggest improvement will be getting the carb dialed in. Then all the other little things will help it get there easier. In reality all we need is a tenth .

Yep, just if you get total in at say 2000 I instead it may make the difference too

Copper what was your 60 ft and 1/8 mi? 103 mph is good enough for a high 12 sec pass. I am positive you are going to get this done.

I checked as we talked in the pm.I was getting anywhere from 181 to 186 sixty foot and the et was 12.96 to 12.99 car was running 103.790 to 104.20 in the 1/4 mi.I hope this helps as a gage. The burnout is a key to a good 60 foot.I also found out that in very hot weather sometimes a scuff and go worked better than a lot of smoke. Keep after it copper you are close and you will get there.

Yes I got your pm. I'm fabricating my own ran air set up. I'm using a standar issue air cleaner top and bottom. Then I'm making a 4 in. Wall that will sit where the wair cleaner would, then I'm using some 4 in. Ex. Tubing to weld into that wall then piping it with the acdelco air cleaner ducting pipe that is sold by the roll for like semi trucks. I think I'm gonna do the electric fans , water pump drive, and alt. Cut off for now . Making a nice decent ram ait set up will take me some time not so much money but time lol.

Congrats nice to see your car back on the track.
The alt field cut off might not be a good idea, as you want full amps to run your ignition electric fuel pump, water pump drive, and other electrical devices.
A large pulley for the alternator to under drive the alt maybe worth something ?

I always ran faster when I tossed a belt. Going to a waterpump drive and electric fans did help. But I think a switch to turn the alt. To take the load off will help. My thinking is once I'm staging shut it off then just turn it on on the return road. My battery should have enough power for a 12 sec blast while not chargin .

The battery can source plenty of current (more than the alternator can), but it does run at a lower voltage than the alternator. This may or may not affect things like ignition and fuel pump.

Well here is a pic of my car from last Sat. night., Dave (67cutlassfreak) bought the picture for me. Went by his place and did a little bench racing and planning for the next time to hit the track which is in his neck of the woods.

I would not change anything right now. The 103 MPH shows you have the HP to run a high 12s easily. Just tune what you have and work on driving techniques, and you should get there. Personally, I am a big fan of short shifting the 1-2 in a heavy car. Get that stumble out and you are there. Heck, let it cool off and by fall you are there.

Thanks jim. I know the stumble being gone and a little better driving technique will help. I'm already in the process of putting on my electric fans and water pump drive. Just need to wire it all up. I'm still doing a ram air set up and the fuel cooler is in the air if I'm gonna do it or not. I did install the 750 holley back on . Hopefully this carb will work better than the 825 I had on it . For such a big carb I think it actually lacked fuel off the line., but it was a loaner and I didn't wanna touch anything. I'm actually amazed it worked as well as it did for not touching the carb at all.

Man do I know what this is about. My 355 ran 13.03 all day long the best I ran 13.01 @100.01 mph and shot the belts off. I was banging on the back door of high 12s I got bent and tore down the block stupid I haven't driven it in 3 years I wont do that again.

Ok so my wiring is all set. I will say this about alt. load and powerloss. When i have my fans and electric water pump drive on the rpms drop at idle. No a major drop but noticeable so i think having a switch for the alternator will be a nice experiment. Everything works good so i think next weekend we might hit the track.

My fans came from a 95 9c1 caprice and the electric water pump drive is a moroso with the HD. replacement motor.

What was the cost of the hd motor?

I bought it years ago and do not recall the price . But its a common motor that can be had easy from any electric motor suppliers. I would be curious to see if I can find that motor in a brushless design. That would actually be superior to the common electric water pumps as I don't think they have stepped up to a brushless desing . Brushless motors are where its at for power and maint.
