CNC Ported Edelbrocks

Just wanted to run something by the race / hi-perf guys. I have some CNC ported 2nd gen Edelbrock heads. At this point I am doing a port match, and found something that isn't sitting right with me. Keep in mind that these were ported around 7 years ago, and I won't be able to gripe about them, so they are what they are..

Port sizes are (Round Numbers) 1.48 Wide x 2.580 High
When getting the gasket to best match the head ports, I had approx .050" of material on both the top and bottom. The thing that is not sitting right is the bottom being .050" larger. Isn't that a dead area? Wondering if they just weren't done correctly or if they used more flow bench vacuum to get better numbers which would not be beneficial in reality. Going to proceed and cut the intake about .030" smaller, but what do you guys think about these numbers on the port size?

So what you’re saying is the floor of the port is actually below the bottom side of the gasket? It’s hard to understand your statement here, thanks in advance.

Yes, port is lower than any (2.4" x 1.4") gasket I've tried, It overhangs 0.120" on the bottom, (sorry I typed the wrong numbers). The Intake port appears to be raised about .060/.070 and the bottom looks like they opened it around 0.120" which I never looked at as I never ran these before. Now it's killing me to decide on whether or not to fill with epoxy or cut the damn intake to match. I really need a print showing port locations to be sure about how much they cut of the top and bottom. I would hate to not have the velocity needed for my HP objectives. 400E block ...wanting to get 500hp
