Looking for an ED radiator tag

Looking for an ED radiator tag
I am finally getting ready to reassemble the core support region of our '70. I had my radiator recored about four years ago and had not noticed that the tag on the radiator had not been reinstalled when I had picked it up. Does anyone have a spare "ED" tag that could be purchased for this project? Thanks for your consideration.

I had considered the reproduction option, I just figured that someone may have a damaged radiator that would have the correct code. I had even called the shop back to see if they had it. Thanks for your reply anyway

The parts place is a bunch of dickwads. Tried to convince them to stamp some other tags, and got told that the dude retired and they can't configure the die to make new ones of different combos. If they don't have a removable letter die, they're amateurs.

I am afraid that I don't know what codes you are asking for. Based on the factory epuipment, the radiator tag would have had an ED tag according to the factory service manual. Because mine was lost during the recore, I do no have access to a photo. I would presume that it would look similar to the EC tag that Parts Place offers. It is just a detail I'd like to have on the car, not critical. Thanks for your reply..

The tanks on each side of the radiator have codes embossed into them. I am trying to document some of this info. Are you sure it is an ED radiator?
On the tank pictured, the two larger letters are the code. The smaller letter in the center is a date code. This code along with the code on the other side is on the tag that you are looking for. Kinda shows the recipe for the radiator.
Thanks,
Don W

I'll get my PIM out here in just a minute, but I'm pretty sure that wagon would probably have a EC.
Well crap Heath - just remembered I loaned my PIM to someone at the Nationals and have not yet received it back.

How many rows in the core of the radiator you are using...ie how many rows were in the core BEFORE it was rebuilt/recored, etc?
From what I can tell, the "FE" radiator was a 3 row core radiator.

The car is a factory equipped 455/400 2:78 open O type Cutlass wagon with hd cooling and a/c. I am enhancing the factory configuration to a 3:42 anti spin O, with W30 badging/stripes. Although it is not "factory correct", I am trying to keep it as true as I can for what might have been.

well then it would be a EC as described under C60 and 4400. Which is weird, if you look at the chart the EC radiator is a V01 as well, yet under V01 in the bottom text box it says "V01 not available with C60"
it also says "V02 not available with C60" in that same box but above it says FE is for C60 and 4200

To interpret the the chart correctly that stevengerard posted you find the model of your car and read the chart from left to right, the first option reached indicates which radiator was used. You say your car has HD cooling, I assume you mean Y72. If that is the case then ED would be correct. Did your car originally have a 4 core radiator? If so it would have the bigger saddles for the radiator to sit in. ( I assume ED is a 4 core radiator)
As 70post said the FE is a 3 core and cars so equipped would not have the bigger saddles.

The wagon is a 3600 model so the 4400 row is irrelevant.
V01 and V02 options are weird from what I have found. Mandatory options that were not on the order form, so they could not be added or deleted.
I do not know if it is a typo error or what but there are two different part numbers listed for EC on that chart.
Hopefully BlackGold will chime in and correct anything that has been misstated.

I always suspected it was a typo where they just replaced the last three digits in that 5th column as there is only one EC reference the ones above and below are FE, it would be nice to know for sure.

The V01 is a 4 core rad with the rad tag code "EC" and tank codes "IF" on the driver side and "CI" on the passenger side. All 3:91 gear cars got the "EC" rad tag code. It is the top radiator offered for the 1970 model year. It can be a little confusing, because people tend to interchange HD cooling with HD radiator. The "ED" rad code tag, which is the "Y72" option, (HD cooling) has "IF" on the driver side tank and "CH" on the passenger side tank.
The V02 is a 3 core radiator with the rad tag code "FE". the driver side tank is "IA" and the passenger side is "CA". It is considered a heavy duty radiator. The confusing part with this rad code tag is; it is not necessarily always part of the HD cooling package. That is why you can have a 3:42 gear W30 with no fan shroud. The "EC" and "ED" are the only 4 core's for "A" bodies in 1970. All the 4 core tanks on the driver side had the "IF" tank code or were blank. On the 3 core all the driver side tanks were "IA" or left blank.
The "EC' and the "ED" radiators both have the number "74" at the bottom of the tag, which is the size of the transmission cooler in the tank. They are essentially identical radiators. Hope this helps.

"The "ED" rad code tag, which is the "Y72" option, (HD cooling) has "IF" on the driver side tank and "CH" on the passenger side tank."
Thanks for the information on the ED coded radiator. Do you by chance have any pictures of the tanks?

I do have a photo, I hope it works for the upload. I should quantify one of my earlier statements. There are in 1971 and later a couple of 3 core driver side tanks that have the tank code "IU", but generally will be "IA"
