Need Raear Driver side Axle - Olds 1964 98
Hello All,
Looking for a driver side rear axle shaft for a Oldsmobile 1964 model 98. If you have one with the bearing on it and the bearing is good, that would be even better. Need it shipped to Flower Mound, TX 75022
Thanks.
I have been chasing for months a rear end vibration, I was told by a shop it was the drive shaft. I had it rebalanced, and the vibration was still there. I lifted the rear end and put the car in drive. I could notice wobble on the rear driver wheel. I changed the wheel for one that is just balanced and the vibration still there. I took of the brake drum and the brake drum is completely worn out on one side and almost new on the opposite side.
This caused the drum to be unbalanced. Got a new drum and the vibration is almost gone, but when I brake I can feel the braking is uneven and when I turn the rear wheel by hand I can feel the shows rubbing against one side.
The conclusion I have is that the only way this can be happening is that the axle is not turning on its center and that either the axle or flange are bent

bent axle?
Before condemning the axle shaft and looking for something that is difficult to locate and therefore costly, put a magnetic base dial indicator on the axle housing and check the "runout" of the axle flange surface where the brake drum sits. I don't have a spec on this; but, remember, several thousandths near the center can translate to a lot at the outside diameter of the tire.
