Gauging Availability: 330 flexplate
I've got a line on a std/std 330 crank for a decent price, and am trying to gauge availability of flexplates. Who's got any and how much (shipped to 21032)? I've seen them for as low as $35+. I don't necessarily need it right now (nor do I really need the crank for that matter) but I can't seem to pass up a good deal... Thanks - mark

regarding the damper and timing marks - if I've got a 395558 350 block with a 381919 330 crank can I:
use a 2-peice 330 damper with the 330 timing tab? - with the 350 timing tab? (will a 330 tab ('65+ i presume) bolt to a 350 block ?)
use a stock 350 damper with either tab? (are the 330 and 350 dampers interchangeable, or can a stock 350 damper be used on a 330 crank?)
use an aftermarket 350 balancer with either tab?
actually, there are a lot of combinations - how about this instead: what would be the preferred method of marking timing using the above block/crank setup, with stock 330, stock 350, and aftermarket 350 dampers available to me, and not caring about looking stock? thanks for any info (this question probably ought to be under another forum...)

The timing tabs will physically bolt to either block; but, you have to use the correct balancer for the crank that you use.

So is a 425 and a 455 the same timing tab?

timing tabs
I have enclosed pics of the three basic timing tabs; the first, with the cutout numbers, is for the early forged cranks (330, 400- 1st design [ "E" blocks, '65-'67], 425); the second is the first type (stamped steel) for cast cranks (350, 400- 2nd design ["G" blocks, '68-'69], 455); the third is a plastic timing tab for "late model" cast cranks (260, 307 and late 350s). The plastic tabs are used on engines originally built with HEI, which has higher limits on the ignition timing. I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.

I had to edit my previous post about the use of a 350 timing tab with a 330 balancer; the TDC mark is in different places on these two.

this is good gouge! mod, perhaps this thread should be moved to tech & ref
was there a damper used in '64 with the rt hand timing tab? or was it just the balancer? i'm wondering if I need to determine whether my 330 damper is '64 or after?
