Help with console
Just "Dummied" up my console insert by rubbing off some of the chrome on the plastic...total lack of sense..it happens. Anyone have a one in great condtion they are willing to let go of for cheap
Thanks.

Thanks.
Bummer
It happens to us all once in a while
To the top again! But you may have to have yours replated or fall back on ebay. The chances of someone having a nice top plate with a broken console is kinda slim. John

A new one will be slightly cheaper than rechroming your original.I've done this both ways.If you do get a new one,I would suggest getting one from Fusick's.They are real nice, with crisp lines,a smooth, clean chrome. The ones from The Parts Place come from a different mold. The lines aren't as crisp, and the chrome is wrinkly or textured.
Fusick's also gets their woodgrains from REM,and a a perfect fit & finish. The Parts Place is still getting theirs from H&H which has gone downhill. They don't fit good at all,and there always seem to be some sort of stain or film on the woodgrain, that doesn't come off.
The prices are the same from both companies, but the quality is not.

Got the part from Fusick...said made in Taiwan. Tried fitting it into my console, but it was too wide and scratched the whole console interior. I had just removed the entire console from the car the day before and spent the day re-painting it with SEM black. Now the work was a waste, and will have to be totally re-done in those areas again. Will call Fusick on Monday. Unbelievable.

You mean the chrome top plate was too wide to fit down in the console? I have not experienced that problem.I just finshed 3 more consoles today, and they all went right in.
The problem that I was having was installing the woodgrain into the top plate, but I haven't had any problems installing the top plate into the console.
Did your top plate have FAP on the underside?

i am surprised that you had a problem but i just had my first problem also. i just got a reproduction duel gate top plate from them and the wood decals on it are all bubbled up and coming off. i had to order the wood decal kit for the other part of the console also so i can just replace it with that but thinking i had better call them to inform them.
Yes it does.
UPDATE: Called Fusick and told them the situation. They said no problem we will refund you all your money and even told me not to spend any money returning the part to them. This company is the best I have ever dealt with when it comes to Olds restoration parts. I will continue to do business with them b/c of their incredible customer service.
