ISO 1970 blue center console
ISO 1970 blue center console
Trying to find a blue center console for my 1970. One of the past owners thought it was a good idea to run screws threw the side to hold the lid on. Closer to N.E. Kansas the better.
Pretty sure all consoles are black plastic which is painted. Searching for a console in general and not just a blue one will add options. Kolor Korrect can supply you with an interior paint that is pretty good match.
If you can't find anything w/in driving distance have you considered repairing what you already have??
I do have a correct '70 blue paint for the consoles here and have two consoles I could refinish if you're looking for a "ready to go" type console and don't want to do the work yourself.
>One console is best used for a Hurst Dual Gate auto trans setup...there is some damage in the auto floor shifter area and that would all be eliminated via what gets removed to make it work w/a Dual Gate setup.
>The other is a original '70 blue console (from a '70 Cutlass....I pulled it myself from the car).
Both would need refinishing (ie - painting, etc) if someone wanted a "new"/"fresh" look.
Of course I'm nowhere near your location so shipping would have to happen.

The paint I have is for parts I have and customer work. You can source it at TCP Global. PM me if you want some help w/the paint, etc. Their pricing will be much better compared to Kolor Korrect and the TCP paint will likely be a better match to the original blue for a '70 console. TCP sells the paint you need by the pint (or larger cans). One pint will be more than enough for a console.
To repair yours you would need a replacement upper metal "surround" piece (without any holes, etc.), the plastic pushpins that hold the thin bright aluminum trim piece in place around the upper edges of the metal "surround" piece, and a hinge repair kit. If you need a replacement hinge they are available from various repro vendors....The Parts Place, Inc. makes and sells them.
The upper metal "surround" has a thin textured vinyl covering over it...just get a magnet and you'll see which part I'm referring to. Likely what someone drilled through on your console. It's the piece that wraps around the storage compartment and the thin bright alum trim rests on (on the upper and rear edges of the metal surround).
You'd need to source a good metal surround piece....not repro'd but there are probably plenty of consoles out there that someone may be parting out, etc. The vinyl covering on this piece can be painted along w/the rest of the console.
H&H Classic Auto, at least recently, was selling a console door hinge repair kit....don't know if he still has those available or not.
