SS II center cap with 442 insert clip on

Hi all. One of my center caps came off and is somewhere in the ditches. Having a hell of a time finding a correct replacement with the 442 insert. Looking at the missing cap, the retainer is a clip on with 5 hole. I thought '70 cars had bolt on. Don't need 4. Will buy a decent used or please suggest vendors. Thanks!

What car is this for? That sounds line an 80s wheel to me.

What I was meaning above is a center cap with 442 emblems sounds like an 80s-era wheel cap. The wheel in your picture appears to be a 75-77 era SSIII which should have the typical rocket emblem. If yours had 442 emblems they were added. The correct caps with the rocket emblem should be abundantly available.

Somehow the 5 screws that attach the retainer to the center cap came loose - the cap departed and the retainer stayed behind.

Well, that explains it, thanks Kenneth. So correct for a 1970 442 would be a rocket insert, right? These caps are obviously new aftermarket.

Yes. And also "correct" would be argent colored 14" wheels with bolt-in center caps. The 15" snap-in center caps didn't appear until 1975, but are widely used instead of the 14" wheels. I put a set on my car several years ago as 14" tires were getting harder to find.

80s era 442 cap was the only snap on cap that wasn't a rocket. Used the same casting as the other caps as seen on the backside, just the insert was changed from the rocket to "442".

Man, even the repros are pricey. I know you used to be able to buy the insert stickers separately, too.
