That's not a recifier but an inverter that creates about 100V AC to illuminate the EL (Electro Luminesence) strips. What happens is as the EL panels age or degrade due to moisture, etc they start to draw more current and the inverter tries to supply more current but eventually fails. I've torn several of these apart expecting to find the inverter transistor open or shorted but surprise - they put a fuse in the circuit which opens. I don't recall the fuse value but it looks like a resistor and had me fooled at first.
The biggest problem is the guts of the module are encapsulated in epoxy. After destroying one case I was able to free the guts from the 2nd module and using a heat gun, soften the epoxy so it could be scraped away from the components. The fuse is soldered to the power terminal (I don't recall which terminal it is, I'm going from memory here).
The other issue is if the module failed, your EL panels are probably degraded which will cause the new or repaired module to soon fail. I've looked into replacing the EL strips with new, there are vendors that sell strips, but that's as far as I got, because the car was sold. When I last looked at new EL strips, I wasn't sure they would match the color of the original strips.
A bit long winded, hope this helps.
