65 bumpers are getting really difficult to find. Fronts are even harder.
How bad is yours? Will anyplace in Europe rechrome it?

Yes I have noticed.. I managed to find a rechromed rear bumper here in Sweden that I bought though. Front seems impossible to get hold of here, and difficult in US as well it seems...

My front bumper is quite straight and has no big dents as far as I've seen. However previous owner said the chrome was very rusty so he painted it silver with hammerite. I have not stripped it so I dont know how it looks underneath or if there is any filler on it. Cant see any dents on the back though.

The few chrome shops over here that I have checked with are asking around 3000$ to rechrome it. There is only a few shops left here that can do bumpers. Many of the chrome shops have been forced to shut down due to the new environmental regulations that has been introduced over the last years..

Wow that’s pricey.
Bumpers are around $1200 here from all I’ve heard.
A buddy may have found a shop in Mexico that is much cheaper…but then there’s shipping.

Whats the car look like now?
Upload a few pics?

I'm getting a '65 Cutlass front bumper rechromed right now that I will resell. El Paso Elector Plate is charging me $585 for it and it was all bent up. I'm sure they can be shipped to Sweden but very expensive.

Here is a few photos, no original car though. Missing a lot of trim. But main focus right now is to get a new front bumper or rechrome the current one

Okay thanks, might be worth to check shipping possibilities to them then. Sounds like a good price for rechroming, please let me know of the result and quality of their work when its done.

Bumpers

I have bumpers, and I know of the place in Mexico that does the rechroming. Most places will rechromed and the price is cheap but almost always they don't triple plate it and the quality just isn't there

"Triple chrome plated" is actually a misnomer. Chrome won't directly, chemically bond to bare steel. It first needs to be copper plated, then nickel plated and then chrome plated. That's where the term "triple plated" comes from. And that's it for our chemistry lesson for today.
