Replacement mercury tilt switch 64 Starfire
So I didn't know any better and let the friggin little mercury tilt switch fall out of the under hood light and break. Apparently the only thing holding it in was the bulb. Now I know.
Already searched here and google and ebay and haven't found any similar replacement (64 starfire). Mine is broke but from the looks of it, seems to be kind of like a glass fuse placed between the bulb and the wire. 3/8" diameter.
Anyone got a link to a reasonable replacement?

The use of mercury has been banned/restricted for more than a few years. Doubt it is being offered by anyone these days. Rather you may have to look for a substitute item that does not use mercury.
Have you tried doing a google search for "under hood light 1964 Oldsmobile"? Or use engine bay instead of under hood.

I just licked the stuff up - that's cool right?
I'm totally fine with a non-mercury replacement. But all my web searches have yielded is "wired' kinds, nothing i can use like the original. Could it made to work ... sure. I was just hoping some oldsmobrother had gone down this road already and had a drop in solution.
Or...if somebody doesn't mind dealing in black market switches, PM me.

Guys I never even got to SEE the thing whole. I heard something hit the floor and this is all I found. (Picture)
Now I know it's simply a fuse like pod that was between the bulb and the hot wire. If you take out the bulb, it can fall right out!
Adapting one with wires is possible. I guess splice if into the hot lead, then build a metal spacer to fill the gap under the bulb. Unless anyone has ever seen an "inline" type like original?

^ what is interesting about that is the question of what the tilt switch is like inside it. After all, I would not use the light itself when I have a proper 64 Olds one already in hand. But if it used the same little glass @ Mercury bullet inside, one could harvest it

My 65 98 has the same same switch underhood, not sure about the trunk light, but I believe it is the same. The trunk lights show up more then the underhood. It is a shot if you want to risk it.
