1969 alternator
1969 alternator
Need to find an alternator for 69 Hurst. Does not have to work but the rear half of case must be useable. Will consider any 1100852 parts or whole that may be out there. Anyone???
that ebay alt appears to be one of the aftermarket front case halves--not the original Delco Remy front half....with "the work" that RocketDevo mentions.
If you run "1100853" as a search there, another 37A unit shows up. It appears to be a real one but is definitely in need of some serious resto work. Has a small crack on the rear bearing area (that can be fixed).
Someone buy it and send it my way for a nice restoration job
Apologies to the OP....I know he's looking for a 55A unit.

Nope - '69's used them as well. Same 6 spoke front half but the finned/heat sink back half on the '69's is slightly different.
'71's used an internally regulated alternator but I'm not sure on the details there. Possibly used a 5 spoke open face front half and a non-finned/non-heat sink back half.

Saw the ones on Ebay and had the same reaction to the one $950. Can't bring myself to pay huge dollars for a useable rear case that needs repair and throw the rest of it in the trash. Thanks for the replies. Am very new at this sort of communication but am making progress----- I think.
Both the 852 & 853 alternators for 1969 have internal voltage regulators. Don't know why, but if you ordered a 4-4-2 model these are the alternators you got. If you ordered a Cutlass or F-85, you got the 777 or 767 alternators depending upon the amperage needed, and both of those have external voltage regulators.
There was a period during that time where Oldsmobile shifted back and forth on the 4-4-2 with internal vs external voltage regulator alternators. Don't know why they did it but they did.
