I've been hearing that a lot, but my car has no plug for the DVCS and the one that was on the car when I bought it had no wire terminals on top. I went through this years ago when I pulled the motor and broke it. At that time you could still get the DVCS w/wire terminals from the parts house.

i have one like that too, if im correct it operates like this as the water temp increases it opens up the vac from ported to manifold to increase the idle speed to increase coolant circulation.

Yes, the '68 has a similar Thermal Vacuum Switch, does that with 3 ports. Distributor is fed from carb ported vacuum at regular temps, switching to full manifold vacuum at higher engine temps. Simply advancing the timing does much to alleviate the production of excess heat- the higher idle speed and subsequent increased cooland flow are additional benefits.

I am guessing this 1971 unit then might be for a manual trans car.

Hi Guys - here's a pic!
Date code is 3H(August)70 which would be correct for the 71 model year run.

Do you have a picture of the actual DVCS you need? I am assuming you car is a 442. All 71 442's (manual or automatic) had a DVCS WITH the electrical connection. Your car should have the wires unless something has happened to them over the years.

I read some of your other posts. I do not know if they are related but your "missing" wires run from the DCVS to the trans. This may be your trans problem??? The wires that run to the DCVS are green.

Thanks for all the input. I wish I had the original. The one that came with my car did not have terminals on top. It looked identical to the one in the picture I posted from the '71 Chassis Service Manual. This is a '71 442 W25 optioned car with automatic transmission and A/C. I know every inch of this car and have rerapped the wire harness when I had the engine out years ago. This car does not have a plug for a DVCS, nor are there any wires missing to the transmission. In that other thread about the transmission problem I was having I posted the problem. The downshift switch was stuck closed and it would not let the transmission shift properly. Although the DVCS with the terminals will work, it is not the same DVCS that came with this car. The two terminals are just the in and out of a switch for the TCS. If anyone has this correct DVCS I am still interested in buying it but until then I will purchase one with the terminals.

So please if anyone has a spare DVCS with no wire terminals on top. Please let me know.
