I'll check out my extra's. I think I got rid of one last year so don't want to get your hopes up. I can check with the carb shop near me as well for you.

theres a guy in inlandempire, ca craigslist thats selling a complete air cleaner to oil pan 455 from a cutlass SX, that has that carb on it. If its still listed, hes willing to part it out. Only wants 700 for the whole thing so even thats great a buy

'70 442 Auto Trans (TH-400) Carb #7040257

Hello,

This is the beauty (I got lucky) I purchased 4 + years ago....it has performed perfect on my car since ... has electric choke (since I have Mondello SS heat block off intake plates, also with Mondello intake gasket set ...) 4 + years ago. The intake is still the true metallic blue color. People ask me when I painted it.... .
Good luck on even finding a core... (I have been hunting) it's tough! If you find a source I would like a back up carb, please keep in touch...

In closing to me... it was / and is worth the hunt for the "correct one". I bought one from another shop (CA) from a 305 T/A motor that was tuned to the '70 455 spec's ... never ran just right... very close. Stumbled sometimes...gas here maybe ?? Same setup electric choke etc... still have it if you would like to try it.... I will give you a great price... still have the receipt maybe they retuned ...don't know...have info on all.
The correct one, I was lucky enough to find was perfect like driving off the GM dealer lot today, even with the electric choke.

So consider the 305 "tuned" carb is 2/3's (or less from me with a new base gasket) the price of the 7040257 "if you can find one" ... the 305 carb works and is very close.... maybe it just needs further tuning.. ? The only reason I changed, was because I found a 7040257 and they did not rebuild my "7040257" carb until I sent them a check which is OK.... I ALMOST LOST THE CARB BECAUSE I FORGOT TO SEND THE CHECK !!!

Thank Lord they called.... I was out of town on business (sent check next day EXPRESS MAIL ) ... anyway....

Hope this helps. let me know on all.

Thanks!
