Bill is tough to get ahold of but he's known as Mr 50. I think he sold most of his parts recently. All or most all of the parts cars are gone. Cant hurt to call, and yes, hes still working concrete.

Franklin Graf answered the phone and I told him that I was referred to him by someone off the Olds forum, that i was told that he might have or know someone that had the 49 Olds trunk handle, but than I realized he was not on the phone...........HE HAD ALREADY HUNG UP ON ME RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING WHEN I FIRST INTRODUCED MYSELF..............NICE GUY. I called back and got his answering machine, so I left a message saying I was not soliciting anything, and explained what he had not heard after hanging up and asked him to call me back... I WON'T HOLD MY BREATH

Mr. Jones is it possible to talk to you, could you send me your phone number. When I bought my car only a few months back in the trunk there was a handle and base plate, but in such bad condition I been looking for another complete nicer set. The handle in the trunk turned on the base plate which I assumed worked with the mechanism in the trunk itself, so I put out the word for another handle. Someone contacted me and said they had one and I bought it and it was sent to me. Looking at it by photo it looked the same but when I got it it had the handle screwed down to the base plate. The hand was set into the base plate itself and clearly did not move, let alone turn to unlock my trunk mechanism. I did not understand and contacted others who said it was surely for a 47 or 48.. However, from what i see here that you posted a 1949 also has the same set up with the screw at the bottom. Does this handle go to a station wagon or some other model besides mine, which is the 76 fastback?. MY next question is how does this handle work if the handle is stationary? Is it a push button handle? Pushing the key area it will move a little like a button but it does not move the shaft in or out. Maybe with a key it move more, but i did not get a key with the handle. I assume I got screwed by getting the wrong year, but surely I did get the wrong model. I am sure even if this is how it works my trunk mechanism is not set up for a push button, it is for a turn to open if my handle is the correct handle that came with my car. I sure could use some advice and ideas about this. . .

Todd, it sounds like you have one in poor condition, correct? Could you post a picture of that one? That may help members try to match it.

Todd,
You may download the 1954 Oldsmobile Parts Catalog (which covers 1949 nicely) for free, at this thread.

1954 Oldsmobile Master Body Parts Catalog - ClassicOldsmobile.com
and
1954 Oldsmobile Master Chassis Parts Catalog - ClassicOldsmobile.com

These are extremely useful for finding parts. You can look up the part you need and you will also see what other years and models have the same part.
The part numbers can be googled to find NOS parts.

So, Mr. Jones even though it says 1954 it goes back to 1949? If so it is a very large file it says for body parts: "1954 Oldsmobile Master Parts Catalog (Body Edition) - Includes both Illustrations & Part Index"

Yes, it was a list of all parts available from Oldsmobile as of the date of publication.
Parts availability was pretty good back to about 5 years
After that it dropped off so that only a few popular parts were available after 20 years.
These books were almost 1000 pages, so yes, it is a very large file that I would only download to a PC.
